West Coast Air Conditioning upset previously undefeated Island Real Estate to end its hope of a perfect season in the Premier Division of the Anna Maria Island Community Center Basketball League. A Paradise Realty in Division I, Island Family Physicians in Division II and Division III Dips Ice Cream remain undefeated and in the hunt for the elusive perfect season.

Matt McDonough nailed four three-pointers on the way to a game-high 25 points to lead West Coast Air Conditioning to an upset win over previously undefeated Island Real Estate 53-51 on Jan. 21. McDonough also came through under pressure, making four out of five free throws down the stretch to ice the victory for WCAC. Al Barrett added 19 points for West Coast, which also received four points from Sammy Samap and three points from Kevin Grunke in the victory.
David Buck led Island Real Estate with 22 points and eight rebounds, while Zach Schield added nine points and seven rebounds. Eric Distelhurst chipped in with seven points and Grant Lukitch added five points for Island Real Estate in the loss.
Tyler Bekkerus scored 10 of his game-high 23 points in the fourth quarter to lead Publix to a 53-43 victory over Anna Maria Glass & Screen in Premier Division basketball action on Jan. 21. Mike Wallen added 15 points and Jamie Urch scored 11 points to round out the scoring for Publix.
Ben Valdivieso scored 14 points and Chad Reed added 10 points and nine rebounds to lead Anna Maria Glass & Screen in the loss. Corbin Kitchen added six points for Glass & Screen, which also received six points and eight rebounds from Luis Leon in the loss.
David Buck exploded for 37 points, five rebounds and five assists to lead Island Real Estate to a blow-out victory over Anna Maria Glass & Screen with the final score 75-57 in Jan. 16 Premier Division action. Zach Schield added 18 points and 15 rebounds and Jacob Shubring chipped in with 11 points and eight rebounds. Eric Distelhurst completed the IRE scoring with nine points in the victory.
Franklin Moore led Anna Maria Glass & Screen with 23 points and six rebounds, while Luis Leon added 10 points and five rebounds. Ben Valdivieso finished with 11 points and Chad Reed added nine points and eight rebounds in the loss for Glass & Screen.
Division I action
Zach Evans scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Longboat Observer past Danziger Allergy & Sinus 50-32 in Division I basketball action on Jan. 19. Forrest Schield added 16 points, two rebounds and three assists, while Kyle Aritt added 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Garrett Secor led all players with 21 points and 12 rebounds, while Danziger teammate Chris Callahan added seven points. Matt Danziger and Molly Slicker completed the Danziger scoring with two points apiece in the loss.
A Paradise Realty defeated Homes of Distinction 36-28 on Jan. 16 behind 17 points, five assists and four rebounds from Justin Dearlove. Jordan Sebastiano added 11 points for A Paradise, which also received two points apiece from Chandler Hardy, Daniel Janisch, David Landisberg and Martine Miller in the victory.
Ally Titsworth scored 11 points and Brandon Gangler added 10 points and 17 rebounds to lead Homes of Distinction in the loss.
Kyle Aritt scored 14 points and pulled down 15 rebounds to lead Longboat Observer past Air & Energy 38-13 on Jan. 16. Forrest Schield added 13 points for the Observer, which also received eight points and 18 rebounds from Zach Evans in the victory.
Division II action
Island Family Physicians received six points apiece from Becca Butler and Hailey Dearlove on the way to a two-point, 15-13, victory over Duncan Real Estate on Jan. 18. Daniel Pimental added two points and Stephanie Purnell scored one point to complete the Island Family Physicians scoring.
Jack Titsworth and Taylor Wilson scored four points apiece to lead Duncan, which also received three points from Jake Rappe and two points from Kayla Aritt in the loss.
Justin Gargett and Glenn Bower scored eight points apiece to lead Sun House past Saleaway Cruises by a score of 23-8 on Jan. 17. Kalif Mora added four points while Grant Bower, Connor Field and Courtney Schmidt each added one point to the victory.
Saleaway Cruises received two points apiece from Julian Botero, Joey Garbus, Kelly Guerin and Wyatt Hoffman in the loss.
Division III action
Lee Bergeron scored 12 points and Johnny Mattay added one point during Dips Ice Cream's 13-8 victory over Jessie's Island Store in Division III Center basketball on Jan. 21.
Billy Eddy and Bo Gurski led Jessie's with four points apiece in the loss.
Luke Shackleford scored 14 points and Samantha Purnell added two points to lead the Bistros past Kumon for a final score of 16-14 on Jan. 19. Sam Azmi and Neil Carper each scored four points to lead Kumon, which also received two points apiece from Joey Salinas and Madison Driscoll.
Dips Ice Cream cooled off Jessie's Island Store behind five points from Lee Bergeron and three points from Johnny Mattay to wind up 12-10 on Jan. 17. Brandon Gallagher and Chris XXXXXXX each added two points for Dips in the victory.
Billy Eddy and Blaine Jenefsky each scored four points to lead Jessie's Island Store in the loss.
Key Royale golf news
Mardene Eichorn fired a two-under par 30 to win the low-net score in the field at the Key Royale Club golf competition on Jan. 17. Cherie Kinerk shot a 31 to finish in second place, while Sally Keyes and Eunice Warda finished in a tie for third with a pair of 32s. Joyce Brown, Marge Jacobs, Dolores Jorgenson, Markie Kziazek, Dorothy McKinaa, Sylvia Price and Rose Slomba tied for fifth with a score of 33.
Marlyn Thorton and Mary Pat Swamy each carded an 18 to win the “four best consecutive holes” competition. Joyce Brown, Mardene Eichorn, Nancy Grimme, Cindy Miller, Dorothy McKinna, Margaret Schuller and Lorraine Towne finished in second place with a 19.
Joyce Brown birdied hole No. 8, while Swamy and Jan Turner both holed-out on approach shots during their rounds.
