New AME principal named

Manatee County School District Director of Elementary Schools Tim Kolbe announced today that Tom Levengood will be the new principal at Anna Maria Elementary School and will begin the new job on Feb. 1.

He will be approved by the school board at its Wednesday meeting, and the information on the appointment is included in the board member's Friday report, Kolbe said, adding that the appointment is a "just move" and will not meet opposition.

Levengood is presently principal at Bayshore Elementary in Bradenton and his application for a lateral move to Anna Maria by Superintendent Dr. Roger Dearing was approved by Assistant Superintendent Lynette Edwards on Wednesday.

Kolbe also announced that Dearing has requested that the AME School Advisory Committee head up a transition team that will meet with Levengood periodically to ensure all goes smoothly for the new principal and all the interested parties at the school.

Kolbe said he made the announcement about Levengood's appointment to teachers and staff at AME this morning.
