Burdette ‘Burd’ Doerr
Burdette “Burd” Doerr, 86, of Holmes beach and formerly of Chicago Heights and Park Forest, Ill., died Oct. 18
Born in New Orleans, La., she moved to Anna Maria Island in 1993. She attended St. Bernard Catholic Church and was involved in the church’s Women’s Guild. She was very involved in children’s programs at the church. One of the youths said at her passing that Mrs. Doerr “was part human and part angel, but now she is all angel.”
Memorial services ill be at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 30 at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 248 S. Harbor Drive, Holmes Beach.
She is survived by children Diana Cruz, Michael and his wife Valera, Ed and his wife Joanne, Jan Martch and her husband Ken, Mary Jane, Kathy Fares and her husband David, Nick and his wife Carolyn, Joanne, Bill and his wife Sally, Eileen Johnson and her husband Mike, Laura Guzzino and her husband Sam, Rick and his wife Sheila, and Renee Kuta and her husband Dennis; 30 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sister Laura Spaulding; and cousin Dolores Harrell.
Mary Elizabeth Mixon
Mary Elizabeth Mixon, 80, of Bradenton, died Oct. 22.
Mrs. Mixon was the first baby born in Manatee County in 1929. She was the “backbone” of Mixon Fruit Farms for more than 50 years.
Memorial services will be held at the Manatee United Methodist Church at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, at Manatee United Methodist Church, 315 15th St. E., Bradenton. Memorial contributions may be made to Manatee United Methodist Church, 315 15th St. E,. Bradenton FL 34208, Tidewell Hospice, 4151 37th St. E., Palmetto, FL 34221, or help someone in need and tell them about the love of Christ. There will be a private family internment at Griffith-Cline Funeral Chapel.
She is survived by her husband William P. Jr.; sons sons Dean and his wife Janet, and Don and his wife Kathie; brother Ted Collins and his wife Helen; grandson Stephen; granddaughter Lori Elizabeth; step-granddaughters Julie Busa (Heath), Kaycee Huber; step-grandson Rick Permuy and step-great-granddaughter Sullivan Huber.
