Anna Maria forms committee to study parking safety
Anna Maria City Commissioner Harry Stoltzfus and a cross-section of city staff, private citizens and elected officials were scheduled to meet at 10 a.m. Nov. 24 at city hall to form a committee that will study the safety of driveways and off-street parking.
The recommendation to form a safety committee came from the Nov. 19 city commission meeting, when Stoltzfus said he had a major concern for parking and the safety of pedestrians and cyclists, particularly in the city’s retail-office-residential district.
Commission Chairman John Quam asked Stoltzfus to organize a committee to study the parking safety issue in both the ROR and residential districts and bring recommendations and options to the commission’s Dec. 3 special commission work session on parking safety.
Sgt. Dave Turner, head of the Manatee County Sheriff’s office substation in Anna Maria, is expected to be on the committee.
