Where's Woody 'yard sale' Dec. 18

Island artists and friends of Island artists are invited to exhibit at the fun, free year-end artists' "yard sale" hosted by The Islander newspaper 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, but signup must be completed by Friday, Dec. 17.

What started as an outdoor yard sale at artist Woody Candish's Anna Maria home, moved several years ago to the sidewalk at The Islander and has grown to fill the Island Shopping Center where the newspaper office resides.

Artists committed to this year's event include Rhona Mitchell, Cathy Taylor, Peggy Potter, Joan Voyles, Cris Huntington, Geneive Alban, Mary Gemming, Marguerite Loucks Dye, Joan Valenza, Faye Rosechild Nierman, Robin Rhodes, Barbara Singer Winnie Long, Loretta Owen, Claire Chervarie, Susan Spann and Linda Molto.

Candish has donated a sculpture for a raffle ticket sale that will raise funds for student art supplies at Manatee High School - and he remained mysteriously uncertain as to whether he'll join the yard sale.

Many of the "yard sale" artists have been participants in The Islander's annual student art fundraiser "For Art's Sake" and many more are welcome to join the event, which is free to exhibitors. Shoppers must, of course, bring their wallets (and arrive early) to take advantage of the pre-Christmas bargains offered by the artists.

For information, contact artist Carrie Price, event coordinator, at 779-1045, or visit The Islander office, 5404 Marina Drive, Holmes Beach.
