Dorothy Eunice Cochrane
Dorothy Eunice Cochrane, 85, of Holmes Beach, died Jan. 22.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Mrs. Cochrane came to Manatee County from Levittown, N.Y., 30 years ago. She was a secretary with the Levittown Public School District. She was a member of the fire department auxiliary in Levittown and a member of the Key Royale Club. She was Protestant.
Memorial services were Jan. 26. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Assocation, 1230 S. Tuttle Ave., Sarasota FL 34239. Griffith-Cline Funeral Home, Island Chapel, was in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by husband of 62 years Herbert; sons Peter of Newtown, Conn., and Curtis D. of Woodbridge, Va.; and grandchildren Kelly, Lindsay, Peter Jr., Katherine and James.
Laurel V. Greene
Laurel V. Greene, 77, of Bradenton and formerly Anna Maria, died Jan. 27.
There were no services. Griffith-Cline Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by sons Brendan of Mill Valley, Calif., Christopher of Chicago, Ill., and Daniel of Palmetto; daughter Dawn Petree of Maitland; brother David Vogele of Tucson, Ariz.; and five grandchildren.
Charlean P. Horn
Charlean P. Horn, 93, of Palmetto, died Jan. 22.
Born in Colcord, W. Va., Mrs. Horn had been a resident of Manatee County since the late 1940s. She attended Teachers College in Athens, W. Va., and received a bachelor of science degree from Florida Southern College in 1948. She retired as a teacher from the Manatee County School District, teaching art and kindergarten and served as librarian at Anna Maria, Palmetto and Palma Sola elementary schools. She was a member of the Tenth Street Baptist Church in Palmetto, the Florida Retired Educators Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, and the Alpha Delta Kappa International Honorary Sorority of Women Educators.
Visitation and memorial services were Jan. 27 at Shannon Funeral Home Town Chapel, Bradenton. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 1179, Bradenton FL 34206.
She is survived by son William Frank of Centerville, Ohio; daughter Marietta Anderson of Palmetto; brother Charles E. Price of Orlando; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Robert A. Norman
Robert A. Norman, of Boca Raton and Holmes Beach, died Jan. 21.
A luncheon was held on his behalf Jan. 28 at the home of Mike Norman.
He is survived by wife Audrey; daughters Diane Tymczyszyn and Karen Urkmez; brother Alpheus J.; and grandchildren Andrew, Robert, Haley and Kyla.
Thora B. Rowe
Thora B. Rowe, 90, of Bradenton, died Jan. 16.
Born in Toronto, Canada, Mrs. Rowe lived in New York City and moved to Sarasota in 1926. She was a graduate of Sarasota High School.
She was a librarian at Manatee High School. At age 53, she graduated from the nursing program at Manatee Community College and worked as a registered nurse in the cardiac intensive care unit, becoming the charge nurse at Manatee Memorial Hospital for 15 years. She also worked for Dr. James Morrish Sr. and Dr. Willis Harris.
Memorial services were Jan. 31 at Episcopal Church of the Annunciation, Holmes Beach. Brown and Sons Funeral Home, 43rd Street Chapel, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Tidewell Hospice and Palliative Care, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota FL 34238.
She is survived by daughter Sylvia Harris and her husband George of Holmes Beach; sons Arthur of Matthews, N.C., Richard, Donald and Ronald, all of Bradenton; daughters-in-law Linda of Matthews, Nancy and Vicky of Bradenton; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. |
