Bradenton Beach

Jan. 25, 2300 block Gulf Drive, resisting arrest without violence. Officers observed a man with a burned-out tail light on his vehicle and followed him as he stopped the car and left it. The man became verbally abusive to the officers and then ran, entering a house and, when the officer attempted to enter, he pushed him away. The man was eventually apprehended, but not until he was pepper-sprayed.

Holmes Beach

Jan. 27, 3007 Gulf Drive, Anchor Inn, trespass. Officers responded to a call that a patron was intoxicated and refused to leave. The patron said the bartender pushed him and he fell. After talking to other patrons, officers issued the man a trespass order and he left.

Jan. 27, 6300 block Holmes Boulevard, assault. Officers responded to a disturbance call and found a man yelling at a woman, who said he had threatened her with a knife. Officers eventually gained access to his house and took him in custody.

Jan. 29, 3000 block Gulf Drive, domestic. Officers responded to a lounge where two sisters had been involved in a dispute, which ended when one threw a beer mug at the other. The woman who was struck refused to press charges at the time, then changed her mind and was informed of the process.

Feb. 1, 3900 E. Bay Drive, Publix, battery. Officers responded to a call that someone had been shot with a paint gun. The complainant said he had been shot from a passenger in a white truck while waiting at the trolley stop. The truck was not located.

Feb. 1, 4000 Gulf Drive, Manatee Public Beach, warrant. Officers on patrol noticed a man sleeping in his car after closing hours at the beach. After checking his license, it was discovered he had an outstanding warrant from Manatee County and he was placed under arrest.

Burglar thwarted, arrested in Anna Maria

A man charged with a morning burglary was apprehended and charged Sunday in Anna Maria City.

A female resident of a home in the 100 block of Cedar Avenue stepped outside for a few minutes at about 8:45 a.m. and, upon her return, noticed that her purse had been disturbed, according to Manatee County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. John Kenney.

The woman then spotted a man on a bicycle in her driveway. She confronted him, but he pedaled away and she immediately called 911.

Officers stopped the man in Holmes Beach, Kenney said. The suspect gave a false name, but was later identified as William Reed, 34, of Holmes Beach, by Dep. Gary Sellitto.

Reed was charged with burglary, obstruction and resisting arrest without violence.
