Eddie Hatcher
Eddie Hatcher, 58, of Cortez, died Feb. 12.
Born in Ronceverte, W.Va., Mr. Hatcher moved to Manatee County from Logan, W. Va. He was a bridgetender.
No services are planned. Memorial contributions may be made to Tidewell Hospice and Palliative Care, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota FL 34238. Brown and Sons Funeral Home, 43rd Street Chapel, was in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by sons Jed of St. Peters and Shane of Virginia Beach, Va.; and sister Kim Robinson and husband David of Huntington, W.Va.;
Anna Marian Jackson
Anna Marian Jackson, 79, formerly of Holmes Beach, died Feb. 5 in Whittier, N.C.
Mrs. Jackson and her late husband Johnny Jackson Sr. were owners for many years of Jackson Plumbing on Anna Maria Island. She was involved with the the former Womens Auxiliary of the P.H.C.C. of Florida and its national association, 4-H and Sunshine Express Cloggers of Bradenton.
Memorial services were Feb. 9 at the Bryson City Presbyterian Church in North Carolina, where she was a member. Memory contributions can be made to Whittier Community Club, P.O. Box 1237, Whittier NC 28789, or Ruby DeHart Fund Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 549, Bryson City NC 28713.
She is survived by children Yvonne Shower of Lakeland, Fla., Johnice Weingart of Richmond, Va., Jackie Walker of Columbia, S.C., George Jackson of Granby, Colo., and John Jackson of Bradenton; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother Billy Barton of Detroit, Mich.; and sister Wanda Sabattini of Sarasota.
Samuel E. Kilby
Samuel E. Kilby, 82, of Holmes Beach and Bradenton, died Feb. 11.
Mr. Kilby moved to Holmes Beach from Texas in 1965. He retired from Amax Chemical, formerly Borden Chemical, in 1989. He was a graduate of Louisiana High School, and attended Kansas State University. He served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater during World War II. He was a member of the Anna Maria Island Rotary Club.
Memorial services were Feb. 16 at Griffith-Cline Funeral Home, Bradenton. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Caregivers Support Group at Summerfield Assisted Living Residence, 3409 26th St. W., Bradenton FL 34205.
He is survived by wife Carol; stepson Steven L. Bower and wife Teri of Bradenton; step-grandchildren Stephanie, Dylan and Paige; sister Betty Reed of Louisiana, Mo.; and nephew Gregg Reed of Carrolton, Mo.
Rich Smith
Rich Smith, 32, formerly of Holmes Beach, died Jan 28.
Born in Sanford, Maine, Mr. Smith was a former Holmes Beach city employee. He grew up on the Island and moved to Bradenton in 1994. He was a 1993 graduate of Manatee High School.
Memorial services were Feb. 2.
He is survived by wife Anji; children Taylor, Caleb and Aeryell; parents Steven and Sandy; sister Pat and her children Ashley and Aaron; grandfather Gerald McCoy of Waterboro, Maine; and many uncles, aunts and cousins.
Carrie Ethel Spence
Carrie Ethel Spencer, 100, of Anna Maria City, died Feb. 11.
Born in Alto Pass, Ill., Mrs. Spencer moved to Anna Maria Island in 1972. She was a homemaker. She was a graduate of Lindenwood College, St. Charles, Mo., in 1927. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Nebraska City, Mo., and Roser Memorial Community Church, Anna Maria, where she served as a deacon. She was well known for collecting shells and creating shell art for benefit sales at the church, and for 30 years of making quilts and embroidered layette sets for the church to distribute to migrant workers and unwed mothers. She was also a member of Anna Maria Island Turtle Watch.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at Roser Memorial Church, 501 Pine Ave., Anna Maria. She is survived by daughters Shirley Ann Strickler and husband Bill of Hot Springs, Ark., Jane Koester and husband Don of Sun City Center, Fla., and Joan Slaughter and husband Rudie of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; grandsons Gary Strickler and wife Shari, Gilbert of Arizona, Scott Strickler and wife Ellen of Abilene, Texas, Stephen Koester and wife Sherri Cary of North Carolina, Eric Strickler and wife Beth of Wichita, Kan., Mark Koester of Chittenango, N.Y., and Lucas McWilliams of Cape Girardeau; three granddaughters; 12 great-grandsons; 15 great-grand-daughters; and six great-great grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and grandsons Michael Strickler, Kevin Strickler and Edward Hood.
Wallace L. Storey Jr.
Wallace L. Storey Jr., 49, of Alden, N.C., and formerly of Anna Maria City, died Feb. 3.
Mr. Storey was an employee of Lowes in Alden. He was a graduate of the University of South Florida, Tampa.
Private memorial services will be at Roser Memorial Community Church, Anna Maria City, at a later date.
He is survived by Patricia B. of Bradenton; and brother John P. and wife Robin of Washington, D.C.
Kenny Wiley
Kenny Wiley, 78, of Bradenton and formerly Bradenton Beach, died Feb. 13.
From Millville, Ohio, Mr. Wiley moved to Anna Maria Island in 1975. He owned and operated the Wiley Hotel on Eighth Street in Bradenton Beach. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and Elks Lodge. He worked as a greenskeeper at the Manatee County Golf Course, and was a member of the Anna Maria Island Privateers. |
