Bongo's rezone request going to council
A request to rezone the land where Bongos restaurant is located on the Palma Sola Causeway has been approved in modified form by the Bradenton Planning Commission and now goes to the city council for decision March 10.
The request by property owner Alfred Parente of Bayway Limited Inc., on behalf of purchasers Sanford and Barbara Katz and Scott Cramer, all of Tierra Verde, was for a change from commercial to residential with approval of 15 units per acre. The planning staff recommended three units, although the planning commission approved 10 units. Bongo's occupies 1.3 acres, said Ruth Seewer of the planning staff.
The city wants to move away from commercial zoning at the location, it was explained, to avoid the heavier traffic commercial areas tend to attract.
Larry Frey, director of development services for Bradenton, said the city council may now choose from the three options - three, 10 or 15 units per acres. Approval of 15 would require state action, he said, while the lower numbers would not. |
