Forget LBK-AMI detours for late-night travel for now

Despite threats for weeks that the bridge between Anna Maria Island and Longboat Key would be closed for all vehicles late at night, the access will remain open for at least a while.

Florida Department of Transportation officials said that some unforeseen problems with repairs to the pilings of the bridge will stymie contractors for several weeks.

It seems that the pilings that were scheduled for replacement are too firmly settled for removal or replacement. In other words, the piles are stuck and won’t come out.

No bridge closures are scheduled in the near future as DOT and contractors work out a solution to the sticky problem, according to the DOT.
