Recall Stoltzfus committee exceeds 200 goal

Members of the Recall Commissioner Stoltzfus committee in Anna Maria said last week they have 206 voter signatures, well above the minimum 136 needed to submit the petition.

Committee member Carol Carter, husband of committee chair Bob Carter, said committee volunteers would continue to gather signatures until the petition is submitted.

The deadline for submission is May 19.

If the recall petition is accepted, the committee must then obtain the signatures of 15 percent — 202 — of the city’s 1,362 registered voters. Stoltzfus has the right to have his defense attached to the second petition.

Carol Carter and other committee members said some of those who signed are former Stoltzfus supporters.

In addition to the recall petition against Stoltzfus, Anna Maria property owner and Holmes Beach resident John Cagnina last week filed a complaint against Stoltzfus to the Florida Commission on Ethics, alleging the commissioner violated Florida ethics laws and the state’s Government-in-the-Sunshine Law.

Stoltzfus also has been the subject of a public records request by legal consultant Michael Barfield of Sarasota that resulted in disclosure of a large volume of previously undisclosed communications on city business.
