Water off, boil notice

Manatee County Utilities Department announced last week announced a water-off notice for Anna Maria Island Tuesday, May 11.

Due to a water main tie-in, customers on the north half of Anna Maria Island beginning at 52nd Street in Holmes Beach are affected.

Once service is restored, MCUD said all water used for drinking or cooking should first be boiled as a precaution. A rolling boil of one minute is recommended, or, as an alternative, bottled water may be used.

The precautionary notice remains in effect until a bacteriological survey shows the water to be safe, which is normally 24 to 48 hours.

A rescission notice will be issued when the boil-water alert is lifted.
