The women of the Key Royale Club played a nine-hole, individual-low-net golf game and a two-best-balls-of-foursome match Dec. 21. Helen Pollock captured Flight A with a 1-under-par 31, two shots ahead of second-place finisher Cindy Miller. Marcia Helgeson took third place with a 35.
Sandy Dahl and Nancy King each carded 3-under-par 29s to tie for first place in Flight B by one shot over Joyce Brown and Sue Wheeler, who tied for second.
Flight C saw Terry Westby take first place with a 3-under 29, two shots better than Denise Burckhardt, who finished alone in second place. Barb Lindawall carded an even-par 32 to finish in third place.
Luanne Collins’ 6-under-par 26 was the low-net round of the day and earned her first place in Flight D. Jane Winegarden finished at 1-under 31 to take second place, while Frankie Smith-Williams took third in Flight D with an even-par 32.
The foursome of Marcia Helgeson, Cindy Miller, Mary Selby and Penny Williams won the team event with an 86. Luanne Collins, Helen Pollock and Mary Selby all won closest-to-the pin shots.
No teams emerged from pool play during Dec. 22 horseshoe action at the Anna Maria City Hall pits, which resulted in a four-team playoff. Gene Bobeldyk and Herb Puryear downed the Disbrow brothers, Jay and Jerry, 23-10. The other semifinal game saw Art Kingstad and Al Forgue defeat Norm Good and Dave Landsaw 21-17.
The finals saw Bobeldyke-Puryear rolling to an easy 21-5 victory over Kingstad-Forgue.
Play gets under way at 9 a.m. every Wednesday and Saturday at the Anna Maria City Hall pits. Warmups begin at 8:45 a.m. followed by random team selection. There is no charge to play and everyone is welcome.
