Bette D. Gilford

Bette D. Gilford, 84, of Bradenton Beach and formerly of Waterford, Mich., died Jan. 9.

Mrs. Gilford retired from General Motors Co. and relocated to Anna Maria Island, where she enjoyed thebeach and perfected her golf game.

A memorial service was held Jan. 16 at the Lewis E. Wint & Son Funeral Home, Clarkston, Mich. Memorials may be made to Anna Maria Island Turtle Watch or MoteMarine Laboratory. Condolences may be made online atwww.wintfuneralhome.com.

Mrs. Gilford is survived by sons Mark and wife Lisaof Bradenton Beach, Matthew and wife Debbie of Ortonville and Daniel and wife Linda of Davisburg; grandchildren Aaron, Ryan, Jonathan, Daniel, Grant and Alex; four great-grandchildren; and sister Patricia Watson of Clarkston.

Jean Pritchard

Jean Pritchard, 90, of Bradenton, a 50-year resident of Holmes Beach also formerly of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Greenoch, Scotland, died Jan. 4.

A memorial Mass was held Jan. 8 at St. Bernard Catholic Church, Holmes Beach. Arrangements were by Griffith-Cline Funeral Home.

Mrs. Pritchard’s survivors include son James W.; grandchildren, Jason, Jillian and Jordan; and niece Helen Taylor, all of Bradenton.

Stephen Richard Samuels

Stephen Richard Samuels, 72, of Anna Maria, died Jan. 2. He was born Aug. 9, 1938, in Norwalk, Conn.

He married Jana in 1968 and they traveled through Mexico, stopping in Yucatan, where their son was born. Their adventure continued when they crossed to Florida, settling in St. Petersburg, where a daughter joined the family. A hobby became a successful business, Realistic Auto Restorations, for the Samuels.

Their love of the Gulf of Mexico and the island lifestyle drew them to Anna Maria 20 years ago. Mr. Samuels obtained his captain’s license and added sport fishing to his list of enthusiasms. Other hobbies were camping, photography, Tai Chi, flying, motorcycling, cooking, working out, gardening and triathlons.

A celebration of life will be held at noon Jan. 15 on the beach at the end of Oak Avenue in Anna Maria. Donations may be made to Underdog Rescue, P.O. Box 351, Bradenton FL 34206.

Mr. Samuels is survived by Jana, his wife of 42 years; son Sage and wife Janet of Palmetto and their children, Sage, Gabrielle, Anthony and Jake; daughter Shona and husband Joseph Otto of Bradenton and their children, Josef and Eve; nephew Robert of Clearwater; and niece Terri of Parkland. He also leaves his canine friends, Precious and Lexy.
