Richard H. Farrand

Richard H. Farrand, 89, of Bradenton, died Jan. 17. He was born May 8, 1921, in Worcester, Mass.

Mr. Farrand served with the U.S. Coast Guard as an electrician during World War II. He was a retired salesman working for Tetley Tea’s, Hugo’s Appliance Store and Sovios Appliance Co. He worked for New England Telephone in Boston as the Yellow Pages representative, and more than 20 years as the New Hampshire representative.

He was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hooksett, N.H., and St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose, Mass. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Mary’s, member of the Lions Club, the Democratic Committee, a Boy Scout and Cub Scout leader, and served on the Hookset Planning Board. He moved to Bradenton more than 25 years ago. He attended and served as an usher at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Holmes Beach. He was an avid golfer, a Bradenton Pirate Booster, and a volunteer with the Southeastern Guide Dogs.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at a later date at St. Bernard Catholic Church. Memorials may be made to Southeastern Guide Dogs or a veteran’s organization. Mr. Farrand is survived by his five sons, Richard H. Jr. and wife Patricia of Wilmington, N.C., Frederick and wife Deborah of Westford, Mass., Thomas and wife Sheriley of Atkinson, N.H., David and wife Lise of Hooksett, N.H., and William of Woodstock, N.H.; daughters Elizabeth and husband Thomas Reilly of Roanoke, Va., and Judith and husband Mike Lavalliere of Bradenton; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Frances T. Fernald

Frances T. Fernald, 90, of St. Petersburg, died Jan. 14. She was born in Brighton, Mass., and came here in 1986 from Waltham, Mass.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, at Bay Pines National Cemetery with the Rev. Chris Spruill officiating. Memorials may be made to Suncoast Hospice, 5771 Roosevelt Blvd., Clearwater FL 33760. Condolences may be made online at www.gunterfuneralhome.com. E. Dale Gunter Funeral Home, St. Petersburg, was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Fernald is survived by daughters Dawn Spruill of Fredericksburg, Md., Diane Davis of Pahrump, Nev.; son Donald C. of Holmes Beach; sister Ruth Pruett of Newton, Mass.; brother James Connolly of West Roxbury, Mass.; three granddaughters; and seven great-grandchildren.
