Man confesses to car burglaries

A 42-year-old man being held in the Sarasota County jail is a suspect in a series of car burglaries, including several in Holmes Beach and on Longboat Key.

Richard Iannuzzi was taken into custody by St. Lucie County Sheriff’s deputies in early August on an outstanding contempt-of-court warrant from Sarasota County.

When he was arrested, Iannuzzi was in possession of a credit card reported stolen from an auto parked in Holmes Beach, according to court records.

Iannuzzi allegedly admitted to a string of burglaries, and law enforcement officials say items found in the Bradenton home of Iannuzzi’s girlfriend match the descriptions of stolen items.

Currently the man is charged with two counts of burglary to an unoccupied conveyance in Sarasota County. But additional charges are expected.

In 2003, Iannuzzi pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor petit theft charge in Manatee County. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail.
