The Florida Department of Law Enforcement reported a convicted sex offender moved to the Cortez area in early February.
According to the FDLE website for convicted sex offenders, the 50-year-old male lives in the 10100 block of 46th Avenue West.
He was convicted in Manatee County in 1996 of lewd and lascivious behavior with a minor under the age of 16, and has completed his sentence and probation.
Convicted sex offenders are required to register their address with the FDLE whenever they move. Additionally, local law enforcement officers visit offenders within their jurisdiction on a regular basis.
There are now three convicted sex offenders living in the Cortez area, including a 72-year-old man residing in the 4400 block of 125th Street West. The other Cortez-area sex offender resides in the 4200 block of 129th Street West.
No convicted sex offenders currently reside in Anna Maria or Bradenton Beach.
In Holmes Beach, a convicted sex offender lives in the 6400 block of Flotilla Drive. Another convicted sex offender in Holmes Beach recently absconded from his address in the 600 block of Dundee Lane, Key Royale, but was arrested last week in Oregon on burglary charges from the Holmes Beach Police Department and for failing to register his address with law enforcement.
