Sunset event ‘promises’ to top Valentine’s Day gift list

What could be more endearing to your loved one than an evening on the white, sandy beach at sunset and a promise to love one another.

How about a glass of champagne? A taste of wedding cake? A reception with music, entertainment, and a toast to your lives together?

The Islander and Anna Maria Island Beach Cafe will host a Valentine’s Day celebration — Islander Promise Day — to share vows, make new commitments, start anew, and promise “to love and cherish one another.”

Couples are invited to marry, commit or recommit in a mass ceremony set to take place at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, at the Anna Maria Island Beach Cafe at the Manatee Public Beach, 4000 Gulf Drive, Holmes Beach.

A Promise Day certificate and reception are included for a $10 donation. A licensed marriage certificate, which requires a pre-approved county marriage license, costs $25.

The reception, following the 5:30 promise ceremony on the sand, will include a champagne toast and wedding cake. Registration for the event begins at 5 p.m. on the cafe patio.

Proceeds are donated to a local nonprofit.

Pre-registration and requests for information can be made by e-mail to promises@islander.org, or call The Islander at 941-778-7978.

This will be our third time to exchange wedding vows since we married in 1996. The second time on a Hawaiian cruise ship 5 years later. We look forward to to enjoy our 3rd exchange of wedding vows on the beautiful beach of Anna Maria!
