Ella Calagna

Ella Calagna of Bradenton and formerly of Bradenton Beach died Feb. 5. She was born in Bronx, N.Y.

She married John Calagna and moved to Bradenton Beach in 1973. The couple recently celebrated 53 years of marriage.

Mrs. Calagna was a homemaker. Her passion was her family, friends, cooking and shopping. She prepared many meals for family events and holidays. She enjoyed spending her time with family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at Christ Church, 6400 Gulf of Mexico Drive, Longboat Key. Memorial donations may be made to Tidewell Hospice, 3355 26th St. W., Bradenton FL 34205. Covell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Calagna is survived by husband John; son Christopher; daughter Ella; son-in law Mark; sisters Dorothy and Joan; and brothers Bobby and Paul.

 

Joan Marie Cashin

Joan Marie Cashin of Holmes Beach and Mashpee, Mass., died Feb. 7. She was born on July 15, 1937, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Alfred and Joan Palmer.

She grew up in Pleasant Valley, N.Y., and attended Arlington High School in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and Mount Saint Mary’s in Newburgh, N.Y. She graduated from Mount St. Aloysius College in Pennsylvania and was a licensed practical nurse and a sign language interpreter.

Her passion was working with deaf children, assisting them through elementary school, high school and college. Her hobbies were making Nantucket baskets and collecting antiques. Mrs. Cashin and husband Frank had an antique business, Corner Cupboard, for many years in Rhinebeck, N.Y.

Visitation and a service were held Feb. 15 at Chapman Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, Falmouth, Mass., followed by a funeral Mass Feb. 16 at St. Anthony’s Church, Falmouth. Mrs. Cashin is survived by her husband, Frank S.; children Dr. Christopher and wife Teresa Simek of Lakeland, Laurie and husband Mark Wegryn of Shrewsbury Mass., Robert Simek and wife Donna of Dover, Mass., John Simek and wife Susan of Kingston N.Y.; stepson Mark and wife Marylyn Cashin of Cary, N.C.; and 10 grandchildren.

 

Debra L. Delvecchio

Debra L. Delvecchio, 49, of Sarasota and formerly of Anna Maria Island, died Feb. 5.

She attended Bradenton Christian and Manatee High School and was a lifetime member of Christ Episcopal Church.

Arrangements were by Griffith-Cline Funeral Home, Bradenton.

Mrs. Delvecchio is survived by her husband, Ronald W. Sr.; mother Rita Bear Andrews; step-mother Mrs. E.J. “Sandy” Andrews; and half-brother Jake Andrews.
