Jessie’s temporarily out of action

Jessie’s Island Store, 5424 Marina Drive, Holmes Beach, suffered a small electrical fire about 10:30 a.m. May 28 that temporarily closed the business.

West Manatee Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Rich Jasinski said it appeared a delivery truck at the store hooked a power line, causing it to be pulled from the electrical box on the building. The result was loss a small electrical fire and loss of electricity to the store and gas pumps.

Responding firefighters from WMFR Station No. 1 in Holmes Beach quickly contained the sparking electrical box with a chemical extinguisher.

Jasinski said damage was minimal, but the store’s electrical system would have to be inspected and approved by a city building official before it can reopen.

A spokesperson for the store said it would reopen as soon as possible, probably within a few days, depending upon how fast electricians could survey and repair the damage. A Holmes Beach building official also must approve the repair work before the store can reopen.
