Mandy L. Baker
Mandy L. Baker, 71, of Bradenton, died June 21. She was born April 22, 1942, in Lebanon, Pa.
She graduated from Hershey High School and attended Hershey Junior College, Manatee Junior College and American Bankers Association. She retired in 2007 from a banking career in Sarasota and Bradenton and Harrisburg, Pa. She was active in the Manatee Chamber of Commerce, Manatee County Nursery School Board, numerous charitable organizations and the board of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.
She wed Robert C. Cupp in 1971 and they were married 29 years.
She enjoyed traveling in her motor home, spending time with family and friends and singing in her church choir.
A memorial service was held June 25 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 6608 Marina Drive, Holmes Beach. Arrangements were by Jennings Funeral Home of Sarasota. Memorial donations may be made online to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or Moffitt Cancer Center.
Mrs. Baker is survived by her husband of six years, Richard L.; children, Jodi Hershberger Esteban and husband Kennedy, Thomas E. Hershberger and wife Patricia; stepchildren Richard Cupp and wife Leisa, Debra Cupp Norris and husband Dennis, Deanna Baker and Marjorie Baker MacLean; 18 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and many loving family members and friends.
Wallace Wayne Cleland Sr.
Wallace Wayne Cleland Sr., 81, formerly of Anna Maria Island, died July 4. He was born July 26, 1931, in New Boston, Mich., and married Patricia Polach June 5, 1954, in Flat Rock, Mich.
Mr. Cleland served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Alaska. He was a member of the American Legion Post 400, and the Anna Maria Island Moose Lodge 2188.
He was employed with the Ford Motor Co. for 38 years in Monroe, Mich., until he retired in 1986. He moved to Anna Maria Island in 1991 and loved the Sunshine State.
A service was held July 7 at Skyway Memorial Gardens in Palmetto. Page-Theus Funeral Home and Cremation Services was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Cleland is survived by wife Patricia; son Wally, daughter-in-law Ping; sister-in-law Louise; and nieces and nephews in Michigan, California and Florida.
William J. Platt
William J. Platt, 86, of Anna Maria Island and formerly of Buffalo, N.Y., died June 20.
After retiring from Bethlehem Steel in Lackawanna N.Y., Mr. Platt and wife Alice relocated to Anna Maria Island. He worked 20 years at the Key Royale Club and finished his working life as a five-year employee of Publix.
A service was held June 29 at Our Lady of Victory Basilica Church in New York.
Mr. Platt is survived by his children, William J. and wife Patricia, Debra Anne and husband Richard Lawrence and Gary and wife Rita; grandchildren Brian and wife Julia and Christopher and wife Kristy Lawrence, Sean and Michael Platt; great-grandchildren Chase, Camryn and Zoe Lawrence; and sisters Mildred and husband Daniel Thomas and Jane Schwartz.
