Island police blotter – 08-05-2015

Anna Maria

June 29, 100 block of Palm Avenue, theft. A beach canopy valued at $100 was reported stolen. The area was searched with no results.

July 4, Rod & Reel Restaurant, 875 N. Shore Drive, found child. A Manatee County Sheriff’s deputy was dispatched for a child in a car seat left in a parking lot. The deputy met the man who had found the child. About 10 minutes later, the parents arrived and told police they’d been arguing and left the parking lot in separate vehicles, thinking the other had the child in their car. MCSO notified child protective services.

July 9, MCSO Anna Maria substation, 10005 Gulf Drive, found property. An unknown person left a vehicle tag at the District 5 office door. The tag was secured in the property locker.

July 19, Bayfront Park, 301 N. Bay Blvd., found property. A watch found in the sand was turned into the MCSO for safekeeping.

July 21, 100 block of Palmetto Avenue, lost property. A woman reported house numbers and chairs missing from her residence.

Bradenton Beach

July, 22, Historic Bridge Street Pier, 200 Bridge St., disorderly intoxication. BBPD officers drove up to a 29-year-old woman laying on the ground. When officers approached in their car, the woman screamed at them and punched the window frame on the driver’s door. The woman then ran at the officer as he exited his car. She made punching motions towards the officer, who then tried to use pepper spray, but it malfunctioned. The officer reported that he used his baton to defend himself. After being handcuffed, the woman complained of breathing trouble. EMS arrived to begin treatment, but the woman bit an EMT on the elbow. The woman was transported to Blake Medical Center. She was then transported to Port Manatee Jail.

July 24, Sports Lounge, XXXADDRESS, suspicious circumstances. BBPD responded to a call about a man in the parking lot with a gun. After getting a description, the officer patrolled the island and found the reported car. The car’s four occupants said they were looking for a friend who had pulled the gun on them. Officers observed evidence of drug use in the car but no illegal substances were found. No further action was taken.

July 24, Cortez Bridge, license and marijuana. A 28-year-old man was arrested for driving without a license and possessing marijuana. A witness flagged down a Bradenton Beach police officer and told him the a vehicle ran his vehicle off the road. The officer observed the vehicle driving erratically before he initiated the stop. He then observed a plastic bag of marijuana in the driver’s side door. The man provided a Honduras passport, but no driver’s license. He was transported and booked in the Manatee County jail. He posted a $620 bond and was released.

July 26, 200 Bridge St. anchorage, domestic battery. A 38-year-old woman was arrested for striking a man several times with a closed fist, causing his forehead to bleed. The man declined medical treatment, but signed a sworn statement of the incident. The woman was arrested for battery, transported to the Manatee County jail, posted bond and was released.

Cortez

July 22, 4500 block of 123rd Street West, domestic disturbance. MCSO was called regarding a couple creating a disturbance. Upon a deputy’s arrival, they told police a window on their van door broke while moving a dresser and an argument ensued. No evidence of violence was reported or observed.

July 26, 12200 block of Cortez Road West, license. A habitual traffic offender was arrested after being clocked at 64 mph in a 35-mph zone. The driver’s license was suspended six times since 2010. He was taken to the Manatee County jail, posted a $2,500 bond and was released.

Cortez is policed by the MCSO.

 

Holmes Beach

July 18, 2812 Ave. E, theft. Four rods and reels were stolen from the driveway between 10 p.m.-6 a.m. The fishing gear was valued at $500.

July 24, 204 72nd St., burglary. HBPD responded to a report of burglary from a motor vehicle. A witness stated she saw a man sitting in a nearby car. According to the police report, the witness approached the man, who then fled with a carton of Marlboro cigarettes. Officers detained the man and discovered he had an active Manatee County warrant for grand larceny.
