Dolores Ann Petch Jorgensen
Dolores Ann Petch Jorgensen, 79, died Aug. 14, in Holmes Beach.
She was born June 14, 1936, in Detroit to the late Charles Lorenz Petch and Elizabeth Marion Barchak. She attended Alpena High School, graduated in 1953 and continued her education at Michigan State, earning an associate’s degree in accounting.
She married Robert F. Jorgensen in Berwyn, Illinois, in 1968. He died Feb. 23.
She was bookkeeper while she lived in Alpena, Michigan, and Chicago, as well as in Slidell, Louisiana, and Florida. She also was treasurer for the Key Royale Homeowner’s Association for 15 years. She was a longtime member of the Manatee River Garden Club and a floral designer. She used her gardening skills in the homeowner’s association, designing and planting medians. She was the block captain and welcome committee for her street and neighborhood. She was an avid golfer and member of the Key Royale Club. She was a founding member of the Manatee Sail & Power Squadron.

Survivors include sisters Betty Ruth and husband Harold Frear, Marilyn Jean and husband Joseph Cangialosi, all of South Carolina; brother Charles Arthur and wife Georgianna of Michigan; nine nephews and nieces; and 17 grandnephews and grandnieces.
Marion E Kelly
Marion E. Kelly, 91, of Anna Maria, died Aug. 17.
She was born May 15, 1924, in Stamford, Connecticut.
She resided in Anna Maria for the past 43 years.
Services were held Aug. 22 at Roser Memorial Community Church in Anna Maria. Funeral arrangements were by National Cremation & Burial Society.
Survivors include daughters Maureen Gardiner of Lee Summit, Missouri, and Kathy VanAlst of Pensacola; stepson Robert Kelly of Mattapoisett, Massachusetts; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
William Charles Nicholas
William Charles Nicholas of Eugene, Oregon, died Aug. 5.
He was born Feb. 23, 1956.
He grew up on Longboat Key and attended St. Bernard Catholic Church. He attended school in Bradenton at St Joseph’s Catholic School. He joined the Army in 1976 and was honorably discharged in 1977. He moved to Eugene in 1984.
He is survived by mother Doris Haarer of Casey Key; son William of Chicago; sisters Susan of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Nancy Oldaker of Clearwater, Sandra Nicholas of Bradenton, Eva Nicholas Osvay of Trumbull, Connecticut; and brothers Charles and Niko of Fairfield, Connecticut.
James ‘Jim’ F. Smith
James “Jim” F. Smith, 55, of Anna Maria, died Aug. 22.
He was born Feb. 7, 1960, to John and Frances Smith in Chester, Pennsylvania. He lived in California in Berkeley and Oakland before moving to Wilmington, Delaware, then Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and finally Anna Maria.
He studied the culinary arts in San Francisco, worked as a chef and drug and alcohol counselor and retired as the owner of a hardwood flooring business in Lancaster. His passions were mackerel fishing, sailing, wildlife photography, collecting antique watches and clocks and woodworking.
A memorial service will be at 6 p.m. Aug. 26 at Bayfront Park in Anna Maria.
Memorial donations may be made to Save Our Seabirds on Longboat Key and Turning Points in Bradenton.
He is survived by wife Carol, son Andrew, daughter Melinda and brother John.
