Island police blotter – 01-20-2016

Anna Maria

        Jan. 7, 300 block of Magnolia Drive, domestic battery. A juvenile committed a battery on a family member. The Manatee County Sheriff’s deputy responded and transported the suspect to a juvenile booking facility.

Jan. 11, 800 block of North Shore Drive, battery. Two men came home after drinking and playing pool at a bar and one man punched the other in the eye. The aggressor was arrested and transported to the Manatee County jail.

Bradenton Beach

Jan. 11, Gulf Drive Cafe, 900 Gulf Drive N., trespass warning. A 40-year-old homeless man was trespassed after police found him sleeping in the restaurant’s outdoor area.

Bradenton Beach is policed by the BBPD.

Cortez

Jan. 5, 4300 block of 123th Street Court, warrant. A 32-year-old man was served a warrant for violating his probation.

        Cortez is policed by the MCSO.

Holmes Beach

        Jan. 2, 600 block of Crestwood Lane, domestic. A man called police and reported his wife threatened him with a gun. The couple had apparently been arguing about money for several days. Holmes Beach police interviewed the couple regarding the man’s allegations and determined the alleged gun may have been the woman’s finger in a splint. No arrest was made.

Jan. 5, 5400 block of Gulf Drive, theft. A tax return check for $3,527 was reported sent to a Holmes Beach residence and cashed, but not by the rightful owners. HBPD advised the couple to get a copy of the canceled check and follow up with a police report.

Jan. 6, Manatee Public Beach, 4000 Gulf Drive, leaving scene/property damage. A witness reported observing a man pull his vehicle out of a parking space and hit the rear of another vehicle, causing a large dent. According to the witness, the man denied hitting the auto and left. Police responded to the parking lot, found the damaged vehicle and left a note about reporting the crash. The next morning, a woman visiting from Canada reported the crash involved her rental car. HBPD found and ticketed a 74-year-old man from Iowa for careless driving and leaving the scene of an accident with property damage.

Jan. 7, 500 block of 68th Street, theft. A tag from a trailer was reported stolen.

Jan. 8, 200 block of 83rd Street, theft. A Christmas star shower light display plugged in at 4 p.m. was gone when the owner went outside again at 8 p.m. to view the lights. The fixture was valued at $50.

Jan. 8, 400 block of 74th Street, burglary. Owners returned to find their residence burglarized. Tool pry marks were found on a second-floor sliding-glass door. Tools, jewelry, cash, a flat-screen TV surge protector and a file cabinet were stolen. The items were valued at $3,475.

Jan. 8, 5400 block of Marina Drive, leaving scene/property damage. A 66-year-old Holmes Beach woman abandoned her vehicle after a crash. Police found her at her residence where she told an officer she panicked and left the scene. She was ticketed for leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, violating the right of way and expired registration.

Jan. 8, 200 block of 81st Street, contractor fraud. A woman reported giving a tile installer $2,245 as a deposit to perform demolition at her residence, but the contractor did not complete the work. Police were unable to locate the contractor and requested a warrant for his arrest.

Holmes Beach is policed by the HBPD.
