obit-snelgroveThomas ‘Tom,’ ‘Tommy’ Snelgrove

Thomas “Tom,” “Tommy” Snelgrove, 55, of Bradenton, died Sept. 1.

He was born Feb. 28, 1961, to Dorothy and John Snelgrove.

He was a family man and a devout Christian. His family remembers him for his sense of humor, contagious smile, compassion for others, persevering work ethic and his easy-going demeanor.

As a young man, he loved playing guitar, listening to music, riding motocross and fishing. Tom loved the outdoors and always found beauty and solace spending time in nature.

He was a jack-of-all-trades who traveled extensively across the United States. He worked as a mechanic, carpenter, heavy equipment operator, built seawalls for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Iraq, a trucker building ice roads and carrying goods across the tundra of Alaska, and an oil field worker in the Dakotas.

He spent the past the past two years battling cancer and living life to the fullest — fishing, biking, walking and relaxing on the beaches of Anna Maria Island and Marathon Key with his partner Karen Moroz and their many friends and family members.

Nothing made him more proud or happier than his daughters, watching them grow up as strong, resilient individuals, who, like him, have a deep connection to art, music and nature. His spirit will live on in them and in their memories.

A celebration of life and memorial dedication will be held at a later date in Marathon.

Mr. Snelgrove is survived by his daughters, Tiffany Way and Brittany; step-daughter Liv McKenzie; his beloved partner Karen Moroz; sister Dawn; brother John and wife Carla; nieces Candice Burrow, Melissa, Jillian Bennett, Sarah Strand and Lorelei Harris; and countless friends and co-workers whose lives he touched over the years.
