Island police blotter – 01-11-2017

Anna Maria

Dec. 24, Poppo’s Taqueria, 210 Pine Ave., fire. A grill fire was extinguished by a worker who was in the process of closing the restaurant. A Manatee County sheriff’s deputy and West Manatee Fire Rescue firefighters arrived after the fire was out. The worker told the MCSO when he noticed the flames, he used a fire extinguisher and sand from outside to put out the fire. No patrons were in the restaurant. No one was injured.

Dec. 31, 100 block of North Bay Boulevard, criminal mischief. A roadway sign was damaged. A $25 cost to repair the sign was estimated. The matter was referred to the city public works department.

Jan. 1, 700 block of Jacaranda Road, burglary. MCSO reported a burglar entered the home by unknown means.

Bradenton Beach

Dec. 22, Oma’s Pizza & Italian Restaurant, 201 Gulf Drive N., trespass. An allegedly intoxicated woman came through a back door to talk to her ex-boyfriend and was told by the owner to leave. Bradenton Beach police responded and interviewed witnesses. BBPD determined there had been no physical violence. The woman was trespassed and told not to return to the restaurant.

Dec. 23, 1600 block of Coquina Beach South, information. Patrolling the closed park at 1:03 a.m., a police officer approached a vehicle and found it occupied by a 15-year-old girl and a man. He noticed an odor of marijuana and saw a marijuana grinder and scale on the back seat. The man told police he was the driver, but produced a suspended driver’s license. The juvenile’s mother was called. The paraphernalia was confiscated.

Dec. 24, 2300 block of Avenue C, vehicle theft. A woman visiting from Dunedin reported a wallet, credit and gift cards stolen from her husband’s Jeep.

Dec. 25, 100 block of Bridge St., trespass/resisting officer. A man and his friend were arrested after the man opened the passenger door of a BBPD squad while the officer was in the vehicle working on his computer. The man unplugged the officer’s cellphone from a charger and plugged in his cellphone. As the officer began to detain the man, a friend came to the scene, yelling and swearing at the officer to let his friend go, approaching with his fists clenched. The men said they were playing “a prank” on the officer. They were arrested and transported to Manatee County jail.

Dec. 25, Cortez Beach, 600 Gulf Drive, vehicle theft. A Bradenton woman reported her wallet valued at $75, containing $75 and $370 in food credits, was taken from her unlocked vehicle while she was at the beach.

Dec. 26, 400 block of Gulf Drive North, burglary. An officer on beach patrol noticed a broken window at a residence and called the owner. Inside, officers found a sweating can of soda, an open bottle of water, an empty can of beer and a blood-stain at calf-knee level throughout the residence. A $350 flat-screen television was reported stolen. Photos and fingerprints were taken.

Dec. 27, Coquina Park, 2650 Gulf Drive S., trespass. A Manatee County lifeguard called BBPD to trespass a man alleged to be bothering beach patrons. The lifeguard followed the man to the Coquina North Boat Ramp. When police arrived, they found a 50-year-old man hiding in the mangroves. He was identified by the lifeguard and issued a trespass warning.

Dec. 28, 103 Gulf Drive S., domestic disturbance. A Manatee County sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to a dispute over a bus pass, but arrived after the alleged fight broke up.

Dec. 31, 200 block of Gulf Drive South, trespass. A man was found sleeping in a stairway. Police issued a trespass warning and told the man he’d be arrested if he returned.

Dec. 31,100 block of Seventh Street North, disturbance/damage. Dispatched to a report of a couple arguing, police found no disturbance. Instead officers found a damaged SUV and a man sitting in a nearby parking lot. The man said he was waiting for his wife to return. Police described the man as intoxicated. Police drove the man to his rental unit and the vehicle was towed.

Jan. 1, Pelican Cove Resort, A Paradise Rentals, 900 block of Gulf Drive, property damage. A truck driver from Zephyrhills was backing out from a delivery at the end of Ninth Street South when he damaged a lawn sprinkler.

Cortez

Dec. 24, 4400 block of 123rd Street Court West, fraud. A person who wrote a check for $75 reported someone had changed the amount to $4,000 and that it cleared the bank.

Cortez is policed by the MCSO.

Holmes Beach

Dec. 24, Manatee Public Beach, 4000 Gulf Drive, theft. A visitor from Maine reported a theft of a new Honda generator valued at $999. The man told Holmes Beach police someone stole the generator between noon and 8 p.m. Dec. 23 from outside his camper.

Dec. 26, Manatee Public Beach, 4000 Gulf Drive, alcohol violation. An officer on patrol observed an illegally parked truck on a berm. As he approached, he saw a man in the driver’s seat putting something under his seat and a beer on the center console. The officer determined no one inside the vehicle had a valid driver’s license. The registered owner, M&L Home Tile Setters of Bradenton, was called to retrieve the truck. A notice to appear in court for alcohol at the beach was issued to the driver.

Dec. 28, 5200 block of Gulf and the beach, alcohol violation. An officer spotted a woman on the beach with a bottle of vodka next to her. The woman told the officer the vodka was hers and she’d been drinking it. The officer issued her a citation for violating the city ordinance that prohibits possessing or consuming alcohol on the beach.

Dec. 29, 100 block of 52nd Street and the beach, ordinance violation. An officer saw two men sleeping in a truck and cited them for illegal camping.

Dec. 29, 52nd Street and the beach, ordinance violation. An officer saw three females sitting near bottles of alcoholic cider.  Two women told the officer they’d been drinking the cider. They were issued citations for violating the city ordinance against alcohol on the beach.
