Dog owners warned against tethering

A female yellow Labrador retriever, known as Jackson, is left tethered Feb. 28 to the wheel of a GMC Yukon with Ohio tags at the Anna Maria Island Centre shopping plaza on East Bay Drive in Holmes Beach. Holmes Beach police responded to the parking lot, where HBPD Officer Joel Pierce informed the dog owners, who returned about a half hour after the dog was first observed, about the anti-tethering law. The law is a 2012 county ordinance adopted and enforced by the city of Holmes Beach that prohibits tying, chaining or tethering a dog or cat in any manner that could injure it.
