Commission to consider Pine Avenue purchase

Anna Maria Mayor SueLynn will ask the city commission at its March 23 meeting to consider purchasing property on Pine Avenue for use by the public works department.

The property at 425 Pine Ave. is currently owned by planning and zoning board member Randall Stover. It's being offered to the city for $850,000 and includes ample parking and a free-standing building that is "ideal" for the PWD, the mayor said.

"I think it's perfect for our maintenance department. It's a rare opportunity to get an existing structure for our needs," SueLynn said. She also thanked Stover for allowing the city to consider a purchase of the property.

Efforts by the mayor last year to have the commission purchase one of the five vacant lots for sale at the former Island Marine were unsuccessful. Those lots were each offered at just under $600,000.
