Moore's wins Round 1 at election

Moore's Stone Crab Restaurant owners have cleared the first hurdle to rezoning the family property from commercial to residential, but it's only a first step, said Alan Moore.

In last week's Longboat Key town election, voters approved by 53 to 47 percent a ballot proposal to allow Moore to take the next steps, asking the town zoning board and then the town commission to rezone the bayfront property at the north end of the key in the village.

Moore has said the landmark restaurant will stay in business, but wants the right of choices.

Also in the election, Bob Siekman was elected to the town commission, defeating Miles Leavitt 1,484 to 1,283, or 53.6 percent to 46.3 percent, and approved a special school tax by 61 percent to 39 percent for that portion of the key that is in Sarasota County.
