Bradenton Beach police say a man who allegedly lives on a boat 100 feet from shore in Sarasota Bay tried to get inside two vehicles in an attempt to find a place to sleep at about 11:30 p.m. April 9.

According to BBPD, officers were called to the Circle K convenience store, 1100 Gulf Drive N., where a clerk said a man was inside the store and that he had been observed trying doors on two vehicles parked in the 200 block of Second Street North.

When officers arrived, they questioned Ricky S. McKinnon, 39, who denied involvement.

But police said a caller advised them a man had attempted to enter his vehicle, causing his car alarm to go off. According to the report, the caller saw the suspect go through some yards to get away. Two witnesses then went to Circle K at the request of police and identified McKinnon as the man who had tried to enter their vehicles.

McKinnon told the Bradenton Beach police officer he had tried to enter both vehicles because he was "trying to find a place to sleep."

He was charged with attempted burglary of a conveyance and transported to the Manatee County jail, where he was provided a bed for the night.
