Cortez man arrested on child porn charges

A Cortez man has been arrested on two counts of child pornography as a result of an investigation by the U.S. Postal Service and Manatee County Sheriff’s Office deputies.

Edward Tobey, 69, a resident of the Cortez Trailer Park, was the focus of an investigation by postal inspectors that began last December in New York. Inspectors posted notices on several Internet Web sites stating videos consisting of “taboo movies, home movies, ped movies or PT movies” were available, according to the arrest report.

Tobey responded via e-mail that he was interested in “amateur movies of underage women,” according to the report.

Inspectors e-mailed him an order form and, upon receipt of a check from Tobey, mailed him two DVDs. The package was returned in February, another e-mail to Tobey sent, and he said he was in his motor home in Cortez.

Inspectors working undercover with the assistance of deputies delivered the videos to Tobey, who was arrested. He later confessed to the child pornography possession charges.

Federal charges are pending.
