Fishing picRebuked sex advances result in arrest on Longboat Key beach
By Mike Quinn: NewsManatee Publisher - Special to The Islander

Longboat Key Police say a man wanted to have sex with his girlfriend on the beach and when she said "no," he fought with her.

According to the report, Derek Gladkowski, 26, and his girlfriend got into an argument after she refused to have sex with him on the beach at Beer Can Island, a spot frequented by boaters on the north end of the key at Longboat Pass. He yelled at her, tackled her and pushed her to the ground and struck her, witnesses said, according to the report. The witnesses, who were in nearby boats, came to the young woman's rescue and called police.

When police arrived, they observed Gladkowski yelling at Soper and waving his balled-up fists at her, according to the report, and she was crying and appeared afraid.

The woman had red marks on her arms and legs from being knocked around, and was treated by EMS on scene.

Gladkowski was arrested and charged with felony battery. The Ellenton man had numerous prior convictions for domestic battery and aggravated battery in Manatee County on different women and has appeared in domestic relations court several times, according to Manatee County court records.

He has also been arrested for disorderly conduct, possession of marijuana and habitual driving on a suspended license, according to Sarasota County court records.
