Youth hurt in traffic accident

A 10-year-old Oregon boy visiting the Island with his parents was taken to Blake Medical Center Tuesday after he apparently ran into the road and into a moving car in Bradenton Beach while crossing Gulf Drive.

According to Bradenton Beach Police Officer Jason Higgins, the youth suffered non-life-threatening chest and back injuries.

Higgins said the youth was on the east side of Gulf Drive in the 2300 block, where traffic has been slowed due to construction, when at approximately 2:15 p.m. he ran into the roadway and hit the driver’s side of a car that was moving south on the road,

The youth was not identified, nor was the driver of the vehicle. Higgins said it was determined that the pedestrian - the 10-year-old - was at fault but will not be charged in the incident.
