Bystrom, Titsworth key Animal Clinic victory

Cousins Trevor Bystrom and Jack Titsworth (moms are twin sisters Judy and Jeannie, respectively) scored two goals apiece to lead Island Animal Clinic to a 5-0 victory over Jessie's Island Store on Friday, Sept. 10, in Division III (ages 8-9) soccer action at the Anna Maria Island Community Center.
Once again the weather "reined" in some of the action, canceling all of Tuesday night's games and ending Wednesday's game between West Coast Surf Shop and Harry's Continental Kitchen after only 10 minutes of play. The second game on Wednesday between Air America and Pine Avenue Store was played, as was the rest of last week's action.
Friday night's first Division III game saw Island Animal Clinic control play from the outset, but IAC players were unable to break through Jessie's strong defense in the early going. Isaiah Beaton, Stephanie Purnell, Elijah Pellegren and Connor Field all came through with solid tackles in front of goalie Rip Shafer to deny Island Animal Clinic.
Trevor Bystrom finally found his way through Jessie's back four in the 12th minute, when he ran onto a clearing pass from William Brusso for a breakaway goal that he rocketed into the far corner for a 1-0 lead.
Bystrom and Brusso almost teamed up again later in the first half when Bystrom quickly threw the ball in over the Jessie defense to Brusso, but Beaton came sliding in to block Brusso's shot at the last moment to keep Jessie's within a goal as the half came to an end.
The second half opened with Island Animal Clinic again applying tremendous pressure on the Jessie's defense. Titsworth carried the ball up the right side and crossed the ball to Brusso, who carried the ball in, but Jessie's goalie Shafer came off his line to pressure Brusso, and his shot slid just wide of the left post.
Two minutes later, Titsworth tried to do it himself when he carried the ball into the Jessie's goal area, but Shafer again came off his line to smother Titsworth's offering.
Jessie's Island Store finally relented to the constant offensive pressure applied by Island Animal Clinic, surrendering three goals in a six-minute span.
Bystrom sparked the first one when he quickly retrieved the ball on the sideline and threw it over the defense to teammate Titsworth, who outran everyone with the ball before ripping a laser that beat Shafer near post for a 2-0 lead.
Titsworth notched another goal a minute later when he one-timed a Jessie's goal kick into the top right corner of the goal for a 3-0 lead. Bystrom matched Titsworth's goal in similar fashion when he picked off a goal kick and dribbled in close before finishing for a 4-0 lead.
Island Animal Clinic's final tally was set up by some nice teamwork between Bystrom, Titsworth and Brusso. Bystrom cleared the ball to Titsworth, who carried the ball up the left side where he passed inside to Brusso. Brusso took the ball and passed it out to the right wing where Jennifer Walstad pushed the ball past the defender before finishing far post to complete the 5-0 victory.
Jessie's had one last-gasp effort at the end of regulation play, although Julian Botero's shot was saved by Bystrom in goal.
