Anna Maria
• Feb. 27, 9807 Gulf Drive, Ginny’s and Jane E’s, petit theft. A suspect was captured on video surveillance stealing merchandise. According to the report, the suspect also is involved in a prior shoplifting incident under investigation.
• March 2, 101 S. Bay Blvd., Two Scoops Ice Cream, trespass. Two juveniles entered the store and asked to use the telephone. A customer told the cashier the juveniles may have put candy in their pockets. A Manatee County Sheriff’s Office deputy made contact with the juveniles outside the business, but did not find store merchandise in their possession. The juveniles were trespassed from the store.

Holmes Beach
• March 1, 6200 Holmes Blvd., DWLS. A 37-year-old man was charged with misdemeanor driving while license suspended. A Holmes Beach police officer observed the suspect driving and was aware the driver’s license was suspended. The officer initiated a traffic stop. The suspect claimed he did not need a driver’s license because he is a sovereign citizen who is not subject to state laws. The man claimed his driving privilege was licensed under international law.
• Feb. 23, 45th Street beach, alcohol. An HBPD officer responded to a complaint of 50-60 people drinking on the beach. As the officer approached the group, he heard someone yell for everyone to hide their stuff. The officer observed several cold beers lying in the bushes and a cooler containing a bottle of rum. No one claimed ownership of the cooler. It was confiscated and the juveniles were told to leave the beach. As they began to leave, the officer observed one juvenile enter a vehicle with another bottle of rum. Upon approaching, the officer smelled marijuana. One of the juveniles admitted smoking marijuana earlier. He surrendered a small bag of marijuana. Parents of the juveniles were contacted to pick up their children. Another juvenile preparing to leave was observed to be intoxicated. The juvenile’s sister arrived to pick him up, but on checking her driver’s license, the officer discovered it to be suspended.
• Feb. 23, 3250 E. Bay Drive, Walgreens, drunk. An HBPD officer made contact with a man sleeping among cardboard boxes at the rear of the store. The man appeared to be intoxicated, but was able to call his father to pick him up.
• Feb. 28, 4400 block of Second Avenue, disturbance. A man reported to police that his son had quit paying rent and he wanted him to leave. The son was packing his belongings when the two began to argue. The father agreed to leave the area while his son finished packing.

Anna Maria
• Feb. 23, 100 S. Bay Blvd., Anna Maria City Pier, Marchman Act. Deputies responded to a fight and made contact with one of the involved persons, who allegedly used a racial slur, which upset some people. The pier manager told the man to leave and he was trespassed from the property. The man did not want to drive for fear of being arrested for DUI. A deputy called a taxi, but then received a call while still at the pier that the suspect had jumped from the moving cab near Magnolia Avenue.
The deputy observed the man return to his vehicle and get behind the wheel. Before he drove away, the man told the deputy he intended to sleep in his vehicle. Several unsuccessful attempts were made to call someone to pick him up. Fearing the man would try to drive, he was admitted to Manatee Glens.
• Feb. 16, 700 block of Jacaranda Road, battery. A man reported to the MCSO-Anna Maria substation and told a deputy a woman had come to his house, and at some point she pushed on his nose hard enough to make it bleed and he wanted to press charges.

Cortez
• Feb. 15, 12597 Cortez Road W., Cortez Grill & Marina Restaurant, criminal mischief. A complainant reported he had become engaged in a verbal argument with another man. He decided to leave, but as he attempted to do so, the suspect threw a beer bottle, which broke on the front of his vehicle. The complainant left the area and called MCSO.
• Feb. 23, 4400 block of 123rd Street West, battery. Two adult family members became involved in an argument over the man inviting unwanted friends to the home. The woman said the friends were coming over and doing drugs and she wanted the man to leave. She told police that during the argument the man accidentally knocked her to the ground. The woman’s son came out of his bedroom and demanded to know what happened. According to the report, the suspect grabbed the younger male by the shirt and the two exchanged punches.
• Feb. 25, 4400 block of 125th Street West, information. Deputies responded to a man lying on the ground and bleeding from his head. According to the report, the man was intoxicated and unable to explain his injury. He was transported to the hospital where he first said nothing happened to him, but then stated he was hit in the head with a bottle. The man became uncooperative with hospital staff and did not want to be treated.

Holmes Beach
• Feb. 22, 100 block of Ninth Street West, Bradenton, DUI. A 56-year-old Holmes Beach man was arrested on a misdemeanor driving under the influence charge. According to the probable cause affidavit, Gennaro Cucci was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday, March 27.
• Feb. 16, 3007 Gulf Drive, Anchor Inn, trespass. A Holmes Beach police officer responded to a disturbance and made contact with the bartender. A man was pointed out as causing problems for other patrons, and he was trespassed from the business.
• Feb. 17, 6600 block of Gulf Drive, theft. A complainant reported two bicycles valued at $50 were stolen from his carport.
• Feb. 17, 4500 block of Gulf Drive, battery. A man reported a friend had contacted him because he was having a hard time with his drug issue and was feeling weak. The friend arrived later, demanding money and pills. When the complainant refused, the suspect became angry and threatened to burn the victim’s house with him and his girlfriend inside. He then pushed his friend to the ground and a companion recovered the victim’s prescription pills.
• Feb. 18, 300 block of 64th Street, criminal mischief. A complainant reported that a man came to his home banging on the windows and doors demanding his keys, which he claimed to have left more than a month ago. The man was informed his keys were in the boat and all he had to do was go look. The suspect became angry and ripped the door off the hinges, causing about $300 in damages. Police made contact with the suspect, who claimed the damage occurred when the complainant slammed the door on his foot.
• Feb. 19, 3900 East Bay Drive, Publix, theft. A complainant reported he left his wallet at the checkout counter and did not notice until he arrived home. He returned to the store, but management said no one had turned in a wallet. He reported the wallet stolen, saying it contained $50 and several credit cards.
• Feb. 20, 4000 Gulf Drive, Manatee Public Beach, animal. Police responded to a call of animal abuse and met with a witness, who pointed out a vehicle with a dog inside. The officer observed the windows were closed and the dog had no water. The dog was panting and appeared to be in distress. The officer ran the tag and then used a loud speaker to summon the owner. The owner claimed he was away from the dog for about 15 minutes, but witnesses said no one had checked on the dog for 45 minutes. When the owner opened the door, the officer reported the interior of the vehicle to be “extremely hot.” The owner was issued a citation and animal control was contacted.
• Feb. 20, 4100 block of Sixth Avenue, animal. A complainant reported that a woman leaves home for days at a time and leaves her dog in the yard without food or water. The officer observed no food or water in the vicinity. He reported the dog to be thin and covered in mange and fleas. Police were unable to locate the homeowner. Animal control was contacted and pledged to send an officer to the residence to investigate.
• Feb. 22, 5901 Marina Drive, Holmes Beach city property, vehicle burglary. A woman told police she was at the city park playing soccer and an iPhone valued at $350 was taken from her unlocked vehicle. She told police she observed a group of young males leaving quickly after the soccer game was over. She later told police she left messages on the phone for the person to return it without questions. When she returned to the skate park area to search for her phone, a wireless device in her possession made contact with the phone, which was discovered on the sink inside the men’s bathroom near the field.

Anna Maria
• Feb. 15, 100 block of Maple Avenue, information. An elderly couple was walking on the beach when the man stopped to use the restroom. The woman said she was returning home, but she did not. The man called the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office to report her missing, saying she has dementia and gets confused. Four MCSO deputies and a Holmes Beach Police Department officer responded to search the beach area. About 15 minutes later, MCSO was contacted regarding a lost woman. Deputies determined it was the missing woman and, after having her medically cleared, she was released to her daughter.

Bradenton Beach
• Feb. 17, 1407 Gulf Drive South, Coquina Moorings condo, petit theft. A man reported someone had stolen his unsecured bicycle valued at $100 from the parking lot.
• Feb. 16, 2000 Gulf Drive S., Coquina Park, property damage. A man attempted to turn his recreation vehicle around in the parking lot and struck an overhanging Australian pine branch. Police report the branch was “large” and became stuck in the RV roof rack making it impossible for the man to move the vehicle. A Manatee County public works employee was contacted to remove the branch with a chainsaw, at which time the RV was able to drive away.
• Feb. 21, 600 Gulf Drive S., discharge of a weapon. A 30-year-old woman was charged with misdemeanor discharge of a weapon. A Bradenton Beach Police Department officer was in the area issuing parking tickets when he reported hearing 10 gunshots. Holmes Beach Police Department, Longboat Key Police Department and the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call for backup. Law enforcement officers converged on the area where the gunshots were heard and discovered a group of people a beach groin. After ordering the group to the ground, the suspect admitted it was her gun and she had been shooting into the water. She told officers she had a second weapon in her vehicle. A Smith & Wesson 9 mm and a Glock .40 caliber handgun were confiscated.

Cortez
• Feb. 18, 12000 Cortez Road, battery. A couple was arguing at the side of the road. The woman alleged that her companion slammed the trunk of the vehicle on her back. She stepped on his keys, at which time he allegedly applied enough pressure to her big toe to cause her to scream. She told police she slapped the back of his head to make him stop. The 66-year-old man was arrested on a misdemeanor battery charge.

Holmes Beach
• Feb. 18, 300 block of 64th Street, driving without a license. A 33-year-old Bradenton man struck another vehicle with a work truck. During the course of the accident investigation, the man allegedly told police he had taken his boss’ work truck without permission to go to lunch. He said he did not have a driver’s license. A check revealed that the man had a prior arrest for the same offense. Police determined him to be at fault for the accident and arrested him on the misdemeanor charge of driving without a license.
• Feb. 10, 200 block of South Harbor Drive, burglary. A complainant reported 11 fishing poles valued at $4,425 were stolen from his unlocked storage shed.
• Feb. 13, 7200 Palm Drive, found property. A public works employee found a bullet-proof vest lying on the side of the road. The employee turned the property over to HBPD.

Anna Maria
• Feb. 9 400 block of Magnolia Avenue, domestic disturbance. While driving in Anna Maria, a woman driver and a younger male in the back seat began to argue. The woman drove from Anna Maria to the Holmes Beach Police Department with the intention of having the younger man evaluated under the Baker Act. Since the incident began in Anna Maria, HBPD contacted the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office. A deputy determined no crime was committed and the male did not appear to pose a threat to himself. Domestic packets were issued.
• Feb. 8, 2911 53rd Ave. E., Bradenton, Wal-Mart, shoplifting. A 23-year-old Anna Maria woman was arrested after attempting to leave the store with three fishing reels valued at $249. According to the probable cause affidavit, the woman pulled a Wal-Mart bag from her purse, placed the reels into the bag and attempted to leave through the garden department. Loss prevention stopped the woman and an MCSO deputy arrived to take her into custody.

Bradenton Beach
• Feb. 10, 100 block of Ninth Street South, vehicle burglary. A complainant went to the Bradenton Beach Police Department to report a vehicle burglary. Unknown persons gained entry into an unlocked tool box and took a manifold gauge set valued at $1,000.
• Feb. 10, 2500 block of Gulf Drive North, trespassing. A BBPD officer made contact with a man, who was using a port-a-potty on a construction site. The man was told he was not allowed to be on the property, at which time he became confrontational. According to the report, the man told the officer that his Sarasota attorney told him what he could and couldn’t do, and that he knew is rights. The man was trespassed from the property.
• Feb. 11, 100 block of 13th Street South, theft. A complainant reported that two bicycles valued at $250 were taken from his yard.
• Feb. 8, 200 S. Bay Drive S., theft. A man reported his homemade boat had been taken from the dinghy dock. The man provided police with a name of a suspect who allegedly had taken the boat previously without permission. He told police he had witnesses that saw the suspect take and then sink the boat.
• Feb. 9, 111 Second St. N., Tingley Memorial Library, trespass warning. A BBPD officer made contact with a man sleeping on the deck of the library near the entrance. According to the report, the same man had been trespassed from city hall for sleeping on the benches. The man gave a similar story to the prior incident by stating he had fallen asleep while waiting on the bus. Police trespassed the man from all city properties. The man said he understood that if he was caught sleeping on city property again he would be arrested.

Cortez
• Feb. 2, 4500 block of 124th Street West, theft. A man, who was just released from jail, reported he gave sets of house keys to three neighbors while he was in custody to take his dogs out. The complainant reported that while in jail, someone had stolen several items from his house. An MCSO deputy reported the complainant to be intoxicated and the report to be “suspicious and inconsistent” in nature. The neighbors with keys could not be identified, and there were no witnesses to the alleged theft.

Holmes Beach
• Feb. 7, 2900 block of Avenue E, fraud. A complainant told HBPD that she rented a house and paid a $1,280 deposit to Coastline Accommodations in December. She made a few more inquiries after the deposit check was cashed and spoke to a man who claimed he never received the money. The complainant made several attempts to have her deposit refunded, but the suspect never returned phone calls or email inquiries. She arrived in February to report the incident to police. Police discovered the man moved his business, but did not leave a forwarding address. After checking with the Anna Maria Island Chamber of Commerce, police learned that several complaints had been filed against the company for double booking and renting properties not under the control of Coastline Accommodations. The victim said she would prosecute when the suspect was located.
• Feb. 7, 600 block Key Royale Drive, theft. A man set out a bag of safety gear for friends, who were using his boat. The bag was left at the dock for them. When his friends returned, they informed him that they never saw the bag. The items inside were valued at $250.
• Feb. 9, 5000 block of Marina Drive, DWLS-habitual. A 43-year-old Bradenton man was arrested for driving while license suspended-habitual. According to the probable cause affidavit, an HBPD officer stopped the man for expired registration. A check of his license revealed it was suspended in 2010 for multiple unpaid traffic citations.

Anna Maria
• Jan. 28, 700 block of Jacaranda Road, disturbance. Two neighbors were reportedly arguing. A Manatee County Sheriff’s Office deputy advised the men that the nature of their argument was a civil matter and should be taken up with their landlord.
• Feb. 3, 100 S. Bay Blvd., Anna Maria City Pier, information. A MCSO deputy responded to the city pier on a possible drowning call. He arrived and made contact with a woman lying on the pier bleeding from her hands and legs. According to the report, the woman said she lost her footing and fell off the pier. She attempted to cling to the pier and cut herself on the barnacles. Others in the area helped the woman back onto the pier. She was transported to the hospital for treatment.

Bradenton Beach
• Feb. 3, 100 block of Sixth Street North, no valid driver’s license. A 34-year-old Holmes Beach man was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of not having a valid driver’s license. A Bradenton Beach Police Department officer on routine patrol observed a vehicle with no working taillights and initiated a traffic stop. The driver produced a Florida ID card and the officer asked for a driver’s license. The driver said the last time he had a license was in Tennessee. He said it was suspended, but that it had also expired seven years ago. The driver said he was the only one sober enough in his group to drive, but admitted he made a bad decision. He was arrested and transported to the Manatee County jail.
• Feb. 6, 101 Bridge Street, domestic battery. Police responded to a disturbance call and made contact with a mother and daughter. The daughter admitted she punched her mother while they were arguing. She told police she had been drinking, and she had aggression toward her mom. When police informed the 32-year-old Bradenton woman she was being arrested, the woman became aggressive toward the officers. She then climbed into a vehicle and refused to exit. Officers were able to remove her from the vehicle, at which time she became more combative and had to be taken to the ground and secured. She was charged with misdemeanor domestic battery and resisting arrest.
• Feb. 6, Coquina Beach, trespass. Police responded to a call of a man and woman engaging in sexual relations on the beach. Both were fully clothed when the officer arrived. According to the report, the couple was embarrassed and apologetic. They were told to leave the area and complied.

• Jan. 29, 12918 Yacht Club Place, information. A man reported that a friend had used his vehicle and had not returned. An MCSO deputy entered the vehicle identification into the system in an attempt to locate the vehicle.

Holmes Beach
• Jan. 31, 500 block of 67th Street, domestic battery. Holmes Beach Police Department officers arrested a 22-year-old man for domestic battery after punching his father. According to the report, the man wanted prescription pills that were in his sister’s purse. When she refused, he threw her purse to the ground, at which time the father began arguing with the suspect, who then struck the father, causing several lacerations to his face.

Anna Maria
• Jan. 22, 200 block of Lakeview Drive, motor vehicle theft. Unknown persons stole a motor scooter valued at $250.
• Jan. 23, 400 block of North Bay Boulevard, criminal mischief. A man reported someone had broken out the taillights of his girlfriend’s vehicle sometime during the night while it was parked in the driveway.
• Jan. 23, 100 Spring Ave., disturbance. Law enforcement responded to a call at the Sandbar Restaurant of a woman who was following customers. An employee noticed she was wearing an emergency medical bracelet with her husband’s contact information. The husband was contacted.
• Jan. 25, 200 block of Gladiolus Street, burglary. A complainant reported someone managed to gain entry through a locked door and stole several items of fishing gear valued at $1,000.
• Jan. 27, 200 block of Spring Avenue, battery. A Manatee County Sheriff’s Office deputy stopped at an intersection while on routine patrol. A vehicle pulled up behind him with its headlights and blinkers flashing. The deputy observed two people in the vehicle throwing punches at each other. The vehicle traveled southward on Gulf Drive and the deputy initiated a traffic stop, making contact with two females. The driver reported she was arguing with her sister when she began to punch her. The sister confirmed the story, saying they were in a “sister rivalry,” and declined to explain further. The deputy arrested the 24-year-old Panama City woman on a misdemeanor battery charge.
• Jan. 28, 8605 Gulf Drive, CrossPointe Fellowship Church, theft. While attending church, a male complainant reported someone stole an acoustic guitar that he had placed on top of his vehicle.

Holmes Beach
• Jan. 28, 6000 block of Marina Drive. A 36-year-old Bradenton man was arrested for driving while license suspended — habitual offender. A Holmes Beach Police Department officer ran a routine tag check, which came back as a suspended license. The officer made contact with the driver and discovered his license was suspended as an habitual offender in 2003. The subject was booked into the Manatee County jail and held on $2,000 bond. His vehicle was impounded.
• Jan. 24, 400 block of Clark Lane, vehicle burglary/found property. A good Samaritan reported to HBPD some found identification cards. Police learned that the cards belonged to a man whose vehicle had been burglarized the night before and a wallet had been stolen. While returning the ID cards to the victim, a neighbor delivered the victim’s driver’s license, saying he had found it on the road.
• Jan. 24, 3900 block of Sixth Avenue, theft. A man reported two of his vehicle’s hubcaps were stolen while he was away at work. The hubcaps were valued at $60. The victim said he knew that he would likely never see them again, but wanted to report the incident to encourage more patrols near the parking lot where the incident occurred.
• Jan. 26, 2800 block of Avenue B, disturbance. Police responded to a call of a fight and made contact with a group of people. A female living at the residence told police a man had come to the home uninvited and would not leave. His refusal to leave led to a physical altercation with another man. Police issued trespass warnings to the uninvited man as well as two other men.
• Jan. 27, 500 block of Key Royale Drive, vehicle burglary. A man reported that someone entered his Jon boat during the night and stole several items valued at $610, including a depth finder and fishing gear. The victim told police he heard a noise around 4 a.m., but thought it may have been a fish splashing in the water.

Island police blotter – 01-30-2013
Anna Maria
• Jan. 15, 400 block of Magnolia Avenue, vehicle burglary. Unknown persons broke the driver’s side window and stole a purse from the front seat. An iPod, cash and other items valued at $385 were in the purse, which was later found, although emptied of its contents.
• Jan. 17, 500 block of Pine Avenue, vehicle burglary. Unknown persons gained entry onto a boat moored in the canal behind the home. Listed items stolen included fishing and diving gear.
• Jan. 19, 10006 Gulf Drive, White Egret, criminal mischief. The owner of the White Egret reported that someone broke out a window, causing further damage to a mirror and two lamps inside. An MCSO deputy reported it did not appear anyone gained entry to the store. He further noted that on the same date and time, a report of criminal mischief occurred outside the Sandbar Restaurant, and said the two incidents appeared to be related. Damages at the White Egret were estimated at $615.

Bradenton Beach
• Jan. 15, 100 block of Sixth Street South, domestic disturbance. A woman complained to police that her boyfriend came home drunk belligerent and unruly, and wanted him to leave. She told police she had booked a flight for him to return to be with family in another state. Police stood by while the man took a shower “to sober up,” and escorted him voluntarily from the property.
• Jan. 12, 1800 Gulf Drive S., Coquina Beach, property damage. A man pulled into the Coquina Beach parking area and drove into a wooden bollard, causing his vehicle to be stuck. The man complained that the bollards were difficult to see, and said they should be painted a bright color.
• Jan. 16, 2650 Gulf Drive S., Coquina concession stand, grand theft. Unknown persons stole two Coca-Cola umbrellas, as well as three Corona beer umbrellas from the concession tables. They were valued at $350.
• Jan. 21, 107 Gulf Drive S., city hall, suspicious person. While on routine patrol, a Bradenton Beach police officer observed a man sleeping on a bench in front of city hall. The officer made contact with the man, who said he was waiting for a friend to pick him up. The officer reported this was the second such incident involving this individual. He was warned not to return to the area.
• Jan. 23, 1600 block of Gulf Drive North, domestic disturbance. Police responded to a couple engaged in a verbal argument. The man said the couple had been drinking and he wanted to break up with her. His girlfriend had locked herself in the bathroom and initiated the 911 call. She claimed the boyfriend was being loud and acted in an aggressive manner, which is why she locked herself in the bathroom. She claimed she was the one trying to break up with him. The man left the residence for the night.

• Jan. 18, 4500 block of 123rd Street, fraud. A complainant reported someone used her personal information to open an authorized account with a credit card company.
• Jan. 23, 4300 block of 123rd Street, criminal mischief. Unknown persons damaged a gate causing less than $200 in damages.

Holmes Beach
• Jan. 14, 500 block of 58th Street, information. A man and woman went to the Holmes Beach Police Department to report a man who has been harassing them via late-night voice mails and text messages. The messages were threatening in nature, including a threat to slit their throats. Police advised the victims to continue to document the messages, and made contact with the caller. Police informed the Bradenton man to stop contacting the victims or face possible criminal charges.
• Jan. 15, 200 block of 71st Street, fraud. A man went to HBPD to report that someone had made several purchases with his debit card, although the card was in his possession. He believes the purchases were made on the Internet. The bank was notified.
• Jan. 15, 200 block of 82nd Street, theft. A woman reported that someone had stolen tools from the men she hired to paint her home. The men went to lunch and when they returned, found the tools missing. Several drywall knives, a razor knife and painting tools valued at $110 were missing from the site.
• Jan. 16, 100 block of 83rd Street, theft. A man reported that someone stole the key from his golf cart while he was skimboarding at the beach. The man said he was only at the beach for five minutes.
• Jan. 17, 4100 block of Sixth Avenue, burglary. A property manager was inspecting a home before the arrival of the owners. He discovered three TVs missing from three rooms, including a 60-inch TV, a 50-inch TV and a 24-inch TV, all valued at $3,750. Police did not observe any signs of forced entry, but secured fingerprints.
• Jan. 22, 7200 block of Gulf Drive, criminal mischief. A woman reported her vehicle’s windshield vandalized. Police could not find anything that may have caused the damage, but observed it may have been caused by a rock, possibly thrown by a lawnmower.

• Jan. 12, 800 block of North Shore Drive, petit theft. Two bicycles were left unlocked in the driveway. Sometime during the night, unknown persons stole the bicycles.

Holmes Beach
• Jan. 12, 3100 block of Gulf Drive North, DWLS. A 21-year-old female was arrested following a traffic stop that began in Holmes Beach, but ended in the 2600 block of Gulf Drive North, Bradenton Beach. A Holmes Beach Police Department officer initiated the stop and discovered the woman’s driver’s license was suspended. According to the report, the woman admitted she was aware that her license was suspended. A check on her license revealed an active warrant for the woman in another county on a similar charge. She was arrested and transported to the Manatee County jail.
• Jan. 7, 5900 Flotilla Drive, animal bite. Police responded to a call at the city dog park regarding one dog attacking another. Police made contact with a woman in possession of the offending dog and learned the dog has had previous issues at the park. According to the report, the dog was involved in a prior attack on a dog. A human was bitten during that attack trying to separate the animals. Animal control was contacted and the animal was placed in quarantine for 30 days. The woman was advised not to bring the dog back to the park.
• Jan. 8, 611 Manatee Ave., CVS Pharmacy, fraud. A man called police to report his credit card was used at the CVS Pharmacy on two occasions in the amount of $1,039. He told police he needed to report the incident to provide a case number to his credit card company.
• Jan. 8, 4000 Gulf Drive, Manatee Public Beach, alcohol. Police made contact with a group of people on the beach after receiving a complaint that they were drinking. Three men had beer in their hands. They were advised of the no-alcohol policies of all Manatee County beaches. The men poured out the beer and the group left the beach.
• Jan. 9, 5410 Marina Drive, D. Coy Ducks, trespass warning. Police responded to the tavern and made contact with a female, who was “very intoxicated,” according to the report. The bartender asked the woman to leave and she refused. Police issued a trespass warning on behalf of the bartender and the subject left voluntarily.
• Jan. 10, 500 block of Key Royale Drive, suspicious incident. A homeowner was contacted by a contractor, who was doing remodeling work on the home. The contractor said it appeared someone had attempted to burn down his home. Police arrived and entered the residence to the presence of smoke odor and burned plastic. An officer discovered the source of the odors, which was a melted pile of plastic. Burn marks were observed on an adjacent wall. The fire marshal was contacted to investigate. His determination was that the melted plastic had been a garbage can and the fire started from within the container. According to the report, the fire appeared to have been accidental, but the fire marshal is still investigating as to how it started.
• Jan. 10, 6800 block of Palm Drive, information. Police responded to a call reporting a vehicle/bicycle accident. Upon arrival, witnesses reported that a trolley had driven too close to a group of bicyclists. One of the riders was “spooked” by the close call and lost control of her bicycle. According to the report, video from the trolley shows the woman losing control of her bicycle after the trolley passed. It also states that the trolley was properly located in the roadway at the time it passed the bicycle riders.
• Jan. 11, 699 Manatee Ave., Bank of America, fraud. A bank manager called police after a female attempted to cash what he suspected was a fraudulent check at the drive-thru. According to the report, the woman’s signature on her driver’s license did not match the signature on the check. She was asked to park her vehicle and come inside the bank, at which time she fled the scene. Police learned that the check was stolen Jan. 9 in a Hillsborough County vehicle burglary.
• Jan. 11, 3230 E. Bay Drive, Island Mail And More, customer problem. Police responded to a complaint of a customer refusing to pay for services rendered. A man had several documents notarized and did not want to pay for the services once completed. The man told police he had come into the business in December to have the same type of documents notarized, and was told by his attorney that they were done incorrectly. He said he should not have to pay for the service twice. Police disagreed and advised the man to pay, which he did.
• Jan. 13, 4000 Gulf Drive, Manatee Public Beach, trespass warning. Lifeguards contacted police regarding a group of people who were drinking on the beach and refused to stop after being warned. The group left the beach before police arrived, but one female returned a short time later and was identified by the lifeguard. The woman was not drinking at time of contact, but she was issued a trespass warning and told not to return.

Anna Maria
• Dec. 25, 200 block of Magnolia Drive, domestic disturbance. A Manatee County Sheriff’s Office deputy arrived to hear a couple arguing. The deputy made contact with the male, who said he was arguing with his wife, but would not harm her. The deputy confirmed nothing physical had occurred by interviewing the wife, who said they were arguing about missing their family during the holidays.
• Dec. 28, 200 block of South Bay Drive, vehicle theft. A complainant reported that sometime during the night unknown persons gained entry to a locked vehicle and stole it from the driveway.
• Jan. 2, 200 block of Gladiolus Street, vehicle theft. A complainant reported he had locked his vehicle while parked in his drive but, at some point during the previous night, unknown persons stole the vehicle.

Bradenton Beach
• Jan. 5, 2513 Gulf Drive N., Circle K, trespass warning. A man went into the store to purchase beer after the cut-off time to sell alcohol. When he was told it was after hours, he told the store clerk, “I’ll go to jail tomorrow,” and left the store without paying, according to the report. The clerk told police the man comes into the store frequently without problem. Police were able to identify the man and, with the store manager, made contact with him at his residence. A family member paid for the beer. The store did not wish to press charges, but wanted the man trespassed, and a trespass warning was issued.

Cortez
• Jan. 7, 11000 block of Cortez Road West, domestic disturbance. An MCSO deputy responded to a couple arguing. After determining nothing physical had occurred, he issued domestic packets and cleared the scene.
• Jan. 7, 4500 block of 123rd Street West, criminal mischief. A woman reported that her passenger side tires had been slashed.
• Jan. 9, address not reported, sexual battery. A woman reported that two female juveniles had been sexually assaulted. MCSO contacted child protective services, which will conduct an investigation.
• Jan. 4, 4400 block of 123rd Street West, domestic disturbance. A man and his adult son engaged in a verbal argument that escalated to the point that the family dog became upset. The dog bit the son during the argument. An MCSO deputy arrived after the son was taken to the hospital. The father said he was concerned about his son’s drug addiction, and wanted him tested for a possible Baker Act. The deputy advised the father to contact the hospital, saying doctors have the authority to implement a Baker Act. The deputy cleared the scene, but received a report a short time later the son had left the hospital in the middle of his evaluation. MCSO then returned to the home to take a missing person’s report.
• Jan. 7, 4400 block of 123rd Street West, burglary. A complainant reported unknown persons gained entry into his home through an unlocked door and stole a diving helmet from underneath his Christmas tree.

Holmes Beach
• Dec. 26, 3900 E. Bay Drive, Publix, theft. A passerby spotted a suspicious man at the loading dock of the Publix store and took a cell phone picture of the man loading shelving into his van. The citizen sent the photo to the store manager, who then watched the store’s surveillance video, which showed the theft. The photo and video were turned over to police. The items were valued at $240 and had been stacked on the loading dock for transport back to a Publix warehouse.
• Dec. 27, 6800 block of Palm Drive, theft. Construction workers returned after the holidays to discover 35 sheets of plywood had been stolen. The materials were valued at $525.
• Dec. 27, 600 block of Dundee Lane, burglary. A resident returned from an out-of-town trip to discover someone had pried open a glass door. According to the report, the suspect used the resident’s two bathrooms. Food and beer were missing from the kitchen. The suspect allegedly took $3,470 in fishing gear and other items.
• Dec. 28, 611 Manatee Ave. W., trespass warning. The manager of CVS Pharmacy contacted police to have a known shoplifter trespassed from the store. The manager reported the woman was inside using a can of shoe polish and was told she would need to pay for the item. Police entered the store and made contact with the woman, who was paying for the polish. But when she saw police, she removed several items from her personal bag and claimed they were previous purchases she wanted to exchange. She had no receipt. Police escorted the woman outside and she was unable to provide identification. A vehicle check determined she provided a false name and had a petit theft warrant. She was arrested on the warrant and trespassed from the store.
• Dec. 29, 200 block of 85th Street, attempted burglary. A man returned home to find someone had attempted to pry open his rear door, but was unable to gain entry into the home due to added security measures. However, the damage to the door was estimated to be $300.
• Dec. 31, 4000 Gulf Drive, vehicle burglary. Holmes Beach Police officers responded to a vehicle burglary at the Manatee Public Beach. The complainant reported someone had gained entry into his locked vehicle and stolen his wife’s purse and jacket. There were no signs of forced entry. The complainant reported more than $500 in cash and items missing.
• Jan. 2, 5701 Marina Drive, theft. A female complainant reported someone had stolen the headlight and taillight from her son’s bicycle while he was inside the Island Library. She told police her son had to drive back to their home in Bradenton in the dark and she wanted the incident documented.

Anna Maria
• Dec. 23, 500 block of Kumquat Drive, domestic battery. A Manatee County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a verbal argument that turned physical between a man and woman. According to the report, the woman initiated physical contact when she threw a table, punched and scratched the man.
• Dec. 25, 800 block of North Shore Drive, domestic disturbance. A woman reported an argument between her husband and nephew. She contacted law enforcement, but both men left the residence before MCSO arrived. The deputy waited, but neither man returned. According to the report, no physical contact occurred during the argument.
• Dec. 27, 100 block of Park Avenue, vehicle burglary. Unknown suspects gained entry into a Jeep by unzipping the soft cover top. According to the report, items valued at $400 were stolen.

Bradenton Beach
• Dec. 28, 111 Gulf Drive, battery. A 53-year-old Bradenton woman was arrested on two counts of misdemeanor battery after an alleged argument with an ex-boyfriend and his wife. According to the probable cause affidavit, the suspect and the man had not been together for more than nine years, but she began to argue with him over past relationship issues. The man asked her to stop, at which time police say the woman became more irate and slapped him. The man’s wife asked the suspect what she was doing, and the suspect grabbed her hair and scratched her face. Island Time Bar and Grill staff escorted her outside, where she continued to be verbally abusive toward staff until police arrived and arrested her.

• Dec. 28, 4400 block of 123rd Street, domestic disturbance. A MCSO deputy responded to a disturbance, but reported it was verbal in nature without physical contact. One of the involved parties had already left prior to the deputy’s arrival. Domestic packets were issued.

Of note
• Dec. 28, 12th Street West, Bradenton, affray. A 34-year-old Bradenton Beach man was arrested on an affray charge after becoming engaged in a physical confrontation with another man at the Lost Kangaroo Pub. The fight escalated to the point of punches thrown and the two men fell through a large glass window at the pub. Police were forced to physically restrain the two men after they ignored orders to stop fighting and both men were charged with misdemeanors.
• Dec. 27, 5315 Cortez Road, Bradenton, shoplifting and possession of drug paraphernalia. A 27-year-old Cortez man was arrested on misdemeanor shoplifting and drug paraphernalia charges while at Walmart. According to the probable cause affidavit, the man selected a pair of gaming headphones from the electronics department. He went into another department and slipped the headphones into a Walmart shopping bag. A loss prevention officer observed the man go to a register and exchange the headphones for a $63 gift card and then attempt to leave the store. Security stopped the man and during the course of a search found two syringes in his pocket and what was described as a “crack pipe stem” inside a pack of cigarettes on his person. He was booked into the Manatee County jail on $240 bond.
