Anna Maria

        • Dec. 17, 700 block of Jacaranda Road, vehicle burglary. Unknown persons gained entry into an unlocked vehicle, accessed the trunk and stole hair cutting equipment valued at $1,300.

Bradenton Beach

        • Dec. 13, 4500 block of Gulf Drive North, suspicious circumstances. Bradenton Beach police officers responded to assist the Holmes Beach Police Department regarding an incident that occurred at the listed address. Police made contact with a man who appeared to be intoxicated and was having trouble clearly stating his complaint. However, the man told police he was visiting a friend and, when he was ready to leave, a neighbor exited his residence and pointed a shotgun at him. The complainant said the neighbor had done so because “he doesn’t like me.” The man told police that he told the neighbor to shoot him.

A Manatee County Sheriff’s Office deputy also was called to assist and made contact with the neighbor, who said the complainant had been on his property in the past and was arrested for trespassing after “causing problems.” He said he heard the man yelling and came outside to remind him that he had been trespassed from the property and told him to leave.

Another neighbor became involved in the dispute, at which the time the complainant allegedly threatened to a throw brick through his window. The second neighbor responded he would use deadly force if needed.

Both men denied pointing a shotgun at the complainant, but the first neighbor did admit to having his neighbor’s shotgun and returned it to him during the argument. A third witness reported seeing the argument, but told police he never saw a weapon pointed at the complainant.

Bradenton Beach

        • Dec. 6, Cortez Road at Gulf Drive, vehicle burglary. A complainant reported from Bradenton to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office that while his vehicle was at the listed Bradenton Beach location, someone had entered the vehicle and stole his wallet.

• Dec. 10, 118 Bridge St., grand theft. A couple rode their bicycles to the Sports Lounge and placed them at a nearby bike rack. When they decided to leave, they discovered their bikes, valued at $700, were missing. According to the report, the bikes were not locked.

Cortez

• Dec. 7, 12300 block of Cortez Road West, domestic disturbance. A Manatee County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a call of a domestic disturbance and made contact with a man and woman arguing. The deputy determined no criminal act had occurred, and issued the couple domestic violence packets.

• Nov. 24, 4400 block of 123rd Street West, burglary. Unknown persons gained entry into a locked utility closet and stole an estimated $300 worth of items.

Holmes Beach

        Dec. 3, 6300 block of Gulf Drive, disturbance. A Holmes Beach Police officer made contact with a man and woman arguing in front of their residence. The man said he recently discovered his fiancé had been unfaithful and wanted to leave, but the woman refused to give him the keys to their only vehicle. A friend was called to pick up the man, who was advised to call HBPD before returning to collect his belongings. He returned two days later without first calling HBPD, and the woman who said she did not want him there called police. Officers stood by while the man collected his belongings.

• Dec. 3, 5337 Gulf Drive, theft. An employee at Lobstah’s Restaurant reported someone had stolen prescription medications from her purse while it was locked inside the manager’s office, but video surveillance had no clear view of the alleged theft.

• Dec. 4, 200 block of North Harbor, trespass warning. Police responded to a possible disturbance and made contact with a man sitting in the backyard of a residence. A female complainant told police the man was her ex-boyfriend and he was not supposed to be there. The man was issued a trespass warning.

• Dec. 8, 5900 Flotilla Drive, theft. A vendor at Winterfest reported to police that he had dropped off his tent with numerous supplies the previous night. When he arrived the day of the festival his materials, valued at $1,900, were missing. Police walked the grounds and found several supplies were undisturbed.

• Dec. 8, 3000 Gulf Drive, traffic. An HBPD officer working traffic control at the Christmas parade observed a vehicle attempting to gain access to the parade route. The officer stopped the driver and told him to back up, at which time the vehicle almost hit the officer. The officer observed the same vehicle attempting to do the same thing a block from his location. The officer entered his patrol vehicle and attempted to the stop the driver a few blocks away. The driver stopped, but then continued for several more blocks. The officer made contact with the driver, who appeared to be confused. The driver did not remember his name or address. A neighbor was eventually contacted, who confirmed that the man has been confused. The officer issued a mandatory driver’s license examination. The neighbor drove the man home.

• Dec. 8, 600 block of Key Royale Drive, disturbance. Police arrived to find a man and his adult daughter arguing. The man has recently undergone some mental evaluations and the daughter had legal control over his actions. She wanted her father’s live-in girlfriend to leave the home. She did so after police arrived.

• Dec. 9, 500 block of 71st Street, vehicle burglary. Police responded to a complainant who reported someone had stolen fishing poles from his boat. Police searched the surrounding area and discovered the poles had been thrown into the water.

• Dec. 9, 3900 East Bay Drive, suspicious incident. Customers at Publix called police to report a woman in her 20s was panhandling in front of the store. When people did not give her money, she screamed obscenities at them. The suspect left the area before police arriving.

• Dec. 9, 2900 block of Avenue B, assist WMFD. Police assisted West Manatee Fire District firefighters after a palm tree caught fire. Investigators on the scene determined Florida Power & Light power lines caused the tree to catch fire. FP&L was contacted.

Island police blotter – 12-12-2012

Anna Maria

        • Nov. 15, address unlisted, lewd behavior. A complaint was filed with the abuse registry regarding two juveniles who apparently pretended to have sex. The two did engage in other intimate activities that were not necessarily sexual in nature. According to the report, two other juveniles were present and may have participated, but no criminal acts were committed and the abuse was determined to be unfounded.

        • Dec. 1, 300 block of South Bay Boulevard, trespass. A Lakeland man and woman were arrested on misdemeanor trespass charges after being found in a home belonging to a couple who live out of the country. The probable cause affidavit did not state if the Lakeland couple were known to the homeowners, but did state they did not have permission to be in the home.

• Nov. 30, 8700 Gulf Drive, Marchman Act. A Holmes Beach man was taken to the hospital for treatment after being found “very intoxicated” by a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office deputy at a trolley stop. The man said he had no one to act as a guardian on his behalf, so the officer initiated the Marchman Act for treatment.

• Dec. 4, 500 block of South Drive, information. Deputies responded to a complainant at the Anna Maria City Pier and observed a man who appeared to be intoxicated. The man said his residence was burglarized by a female neighbor and that she had admitted as much to him. Deputies drove the complainant to his residence so he could show them where the suspect had gained entry, but he changed his story, saying everything was locked, nothing was missing, but the sliding-glass door was open. Deputies made contact with the neighbor who said she had known her neighbor for years, and that sometimes he acted friendly and other times acted like he did not know her at all. She said she noticed his dog at the door and knew he was not home. She assumed the dog needed to go to the bathroom so she let him outside, but never entered the residence. She assured the deputies she would not help her neighbor again.

Bradenton Beach

        • Dec. 2, First Street North and Church Avenue, domestic battery. Police responded to a domestic battery. The woman said she and her husband had been drinking that night and became engaged in a verbal dispute upon arriving home. The argument escalated and the man allegedly pushed her to the ground. When she attempted to use her cell phone to call 911, he reportedly knocked it out of her hand and then fled the home. A Holmes Beach Police officer, who had assisted on the initial call, spotted the man a short time later back at the residence and took him into custody. The woman did not wish to press charges. According to the report, she said, “This happens often back in Ohio.” Domestic violence packets were issued to the couple.

• Dec. 2, 100 block of 10th Street, stolen vehicle. A woman reported she woke up to go to the store to get a newspaper and discovered her van was missing. According to the report, she had $250 in Christmas presents inside the van when it was stolen. She told police she left the keys overnight in the center console.

Holmes Beach

        • Nov. 26, 400 block of 39th Street, trespass/theft. Police made contact with a male complainant, who reported a homeless man had stolen a pool lounge chair valued at $250. The complainant said the man went into some nearby woods. Police entered the woods and found the man sleeping on the chair. According to the report, the man admitted the theft. He was taken into custody on a misdemeanor theft charge. The chair was returned.

• Nov. 26, 400 block of 62nd Street, suspicious circumstance. Police responded to a report of a possible theft and made contact with a female complainant. The woman said someone had been trying to make her crazy for the past 12 years. She said someone had stolen her property, but did not know what was taken. The woman said she was being tormented because someone entered her home every time she left. She said she always returns home to find her phone unplugged, photos turned upside down and seat cushions burned. Police found no evidence of forced entry.

• Nov. 28, 400 block of 74th Street, disturbance. Police responded to a male and female arguing. According to the report, the two were drinking all day and the male had hid the woman’s computer cord, which sparked the argument. Police advised that one of them should leave for the night, and the female did.

• Nov. 29, 4000 Gulf Drive, disturbance. Police responded to the trolley pickup/drop off area at Manatee Public Beach where a female reported that her ex-boyfriend had refused to let her leave the area. Police made contact with the male at a different trolley stop. He said the two had been arguing because he just found out she had been arrested for prostitution. He said it was only an argument and that he left her to do whatever she wanted.

• Nov. 30, theft, 600 block of Emerald Lane, theft. A complainant told police that over the last few weeks several items had disappeared from his property. The items included a wrought iron table, ladder, potted plants and more valued at $600. Police returned on Dec. 1 when the man reported a mower valued at $250 had been stolen from his property.

• Dec. 1, 600 block of Foxworth, suspicious persons. Police made contact with three juveniles wearing backpacks. The officer reported the three males tried to quickly walk away when they spotted his patrol vehicle. With several burglaries being reported in the area, the officer stopped the juveniles and asked them why they were in the area. According to the report, the juveniles were unable to give a concise answer. The officer contacted the parents of each juvenile, who all said their children had lied about where they were supposed to be. A marijuana pipe was found in one of the juvenile’s backpack. All three were released into the custody of their parents.

• Dec. 2, 725 Manatee Avenue, vehicle burglary. A fisher at the Kingfish boat ramp told police he had been fishing all day. When he returned to the boat ramp, he saw his passenger side window had been broken. He then observed about $300 in car stereo equipment had been stolen.

• Dec. 2, 5337 Gulf Drive, theft. An employee at Lobstah’s Restaurant reported another employee had stolen cash and several items from her purse while it was in the manager’s office. The complainant said the suspect was seen entering the office and locking the doors, which she described as very unusual. After the employee unlocked the doors and left, the complainant discovered the items missing from her purse. The office was under video surveillance and police were able to observe a recording of the incident. The suspect had left the building, and she was being sought as of press time.

Anna Maria

• Nov. 23, 500 block of Spring Avenue, Baker Act. A house cleaner found a man unresponsive and called 911. EMS and law enforcement responded. According to the report, the man had taken an unknown number of anti-depressants and prescription sleeping pills. He was transported to the hospital, where the investigating officer initiated a Baker Act.

• Nov. 27, 700 block of Fern Street, burglary. A Manatee County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a complaint of a burglary. According to the report, an entry point was discovered at the bathroom window where the screen had been cut and the window pried open. There were no items reported missing.

• Nov. 28, 2407 Gulf Drive N., theft. Unknown persons gained access to the storage shed of Vera Roma and stole lawn tools valued at $600. Police believe the suspect may possess a key to the shed because once removed, the locks were taken.

• Nov. 19, 200 Gulf Drive N., theft. An employee at the BeachHouse Restaurant placed her purse in a “cubby” where other employees place personal property during their shifts. Upon the conclusion of the complainant’s shift, she discovered $75 worth of items missing.

Holmes Beach

• Nov. 26, 400 block of 39th Street, petit theft. A 52-year-old homeless man was arrested after stealing a pool lounge chair valued at $300. According to the report, the man was trespassed from the property Nov. 6, so he was also charged with trespass after warning. Police say the man took the chair to use as a bed in a nearby wooded area where he was sleeping.

• Nov. 19, 200 block of 83rd Street, information. A complainant reported he was having problems with a neighbor next door to his vacant lot. He told police the woman keeps coming onto his property to trim palm trees. He said he wouldn’t mind, but she leaves the palm fronds on the ground, making it difficult for him to mow the property because he has to first clean up her trimmings. The officer attempted to make contact with the woman, with no success. He advised the owner to post “No Trespassing” signs on his property.

• Nov. 19, 500 block of 67th Street, theft. A woman reported the theft of earrings valued at $1,000. She told police she typically locks them away, but had accidently left them out on a day when her son had a few friends over.

• Nov. 19, 600 block of Dundee Lane, burglary. The property owner reported someone had used a shower while the owners were gone. The couple told police they had an Internet camera set up to check on their house from time to time, but that it had been stolen.

• Nov. 20, 3000 block of Gulf Drive, theft. A complainant reported someone stole a pair of bicycles valued at $40. Police later located one of the bikes and returned it to the owner.

• Nov. 23, 5410 Marina Drive, theft. A woman complainant reported someone stole her purse from the back of a bar chair while at D. Coy Ducks. Total value of the missing items is $451.

• Nov. 23, 611 Manatee Ave. W., disturbance. Police responded to a male complainant, who reported a woman in a golf cart was circling the parking lot at CVS Pharmacy. He rolled down his window to ask the woman to make up her mind where she was going so he could park. He alleges the woman then began yelling and cursing at him. Police interviewed the woman who told a similar story, but claimed the man had yelled and cursed at her. Both parties were advised to go their separate ways.

• Nov. 24, 6200 block of Holmes Boulevard, theft. A variety of chairs were left out overnight from the previous day’s wedding. At some point during the night, the chairs, valued at $688 were stolen.

• Nov. 25, 2700 block of Gulf Drive, suspicious incident. A complainant called to report he had received two phone calls that the motel’s office power had gone down. The caller needed the guest’s financial information to resubmit into the computer, and offered a 25 percent discount for the inconvenience. The man refused to give his information over the phone. An investigation revealed that several of the motel’s guests had received similar calls, which did not come from motel staff.

• Nov. 25, 6200 Flotilla Drive, criminal mischief. Five flower pots at the dog park were damaged and thrown over the fence.

• Nov. 25, 2800 block of Avenue E, burglary. A woman said she left her purse on the kitchen counter while she and her friends “went about their business” for the day. When she returned, she went to her purse to retrieve some money and found $250 was missing. She told police the sliding glass door of her rental unit does not lock. One of the friends did report she heard a loud noise at about 3 a.m., but didn’t hear anything else, so she went back to sleep.

        • Nov. 16, 700 block of North Bay Boulevard, fraud. A complainant came to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office Anna Maria substation to report that someone had used his financial information.

• Sept. 8, 12700 Cortez Road W., theft of copper. Unknown persons stole copper wire off the Cortez Bridge.

Holmes Beach

        Nov. 16, 100 block of 30th Street, information. A complainant reported an opossum in her yard “that was refusing to leave after being physically encouraged to do so,” according to the incident report. A Holmes Beach Police Department officer responded and was able to snare the animal, which was released off Anna Maria Island.

• Nov. 17, 300 block of Clark Drive, battery. A man came to the door of a downstairs residence to demand the location of his son. Two men told him they were on vacation and did not know his son. According to the report, the discussion “got out of hand” and the suspect pushed one of the two men, who swung at the suspect but missed and was then punched in the face by the suspect. A man living upstairs arrived and said his son was friends with the suspect’s son, but that no other children were at his home. The suspect said another one of his friend’s son said he was there, but did not realize that the house had two separate living units when he knocked on the downstairs door. Police arrived and all parties agreed it was a “big misunderstanding.” Police helped the man search for his son at a nearby beach access, at which time the man’s girlfriend called to say his son was at home, sleeping in his bed. No charges were filed in the incident.

• Nov. 17, 3200 block of East Bay Drive, criminal traffic. An HBPD officer observed what appeared to be a suspicious tag. The officer initiated a traffic stop and learned the license plate was not registered to the vehicle. The woman allegedly admitted she was borrowing the car and had put an old license plate on the vehicle. The officer asked about the tag, which appeared to have been tampered with. The woman initially denied tampering with the tag but later admitted that she had used a Sharpie to make the 2006 tag appear to look like a 2013 tag. The vehicle was towed and the woman was issued three criminal traffic citations.

• Nov. 17, 600 block of Dundee, burglary. A man arrived home after being away for a month. He went to his freezer to remove some fish and discovered the fish was gone. Upon looking around his home, he discovered nine fishing reels, valued at $2,200, were missing. The complainant also reported a change bucket containing about $40 was missing. Police observed the side of the garage door had been pried open.

Island police blotter – 11-21-2012

Anna Maria

        • Nov. 14, 500 block of South Drive, vehicle burglary. A Manatee County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a complaint of a vehicle burglary and found that someone had pried open the complainant’s driver’s side door. Significant damage was caused to the vehicle and several unlisted items were stolen.

Cortez

• Nov. 9, 4500 block of 121st Street West, civil dispute. A MCSO deputy responded to an argument between neighbors. According to the report the neighbors were arguing over property boundaries and the use of a roadway. The subjects were informed that their dispute was a civil matter, not a criminal issue.

Holmes Beach

        Nov. 6, 6500 block of Flotilla Drive, burglary. Complainants reported that someone broke into their home while they were out of town, stealing $300 from a cigar box.

• Nov. 6, 600 block of Dundee Lane, burglary and criminal mischief. Holmes Beach Police Department officers responded to multiple alarms. Police established a perimeter and sent a K-9 unit into the home. No one was found inside. Upon investigating, police discovered two alarm panels were ripped from the wall and damaged. Nothing was reported missing. Damages were estimated to be $1,000. Fingerprints were secured at the scene.

• Nov. 7, 4000 Gulf Drive, suspicious person. Marine Rescue contacted HBPD regarding a man parked in a van by the children’s playground. An officer observed the man with no shirt and only wearing underwear watching the children play. The man claimed he was relaxing after the presidential election, making several racial slurs in exclaiming his worries for the country. Since the man’s genitals were not exposed at the time of the contact, no crime had occurred, but the officer advised the man to leave the area.

• Nov. 8, address not reported, suicide attempt. An HBPD officer responded to an overdose call and made contact with family members, who were screaming for him to hurry. The officer found an unconscious man inside the home who was turning blue. The officer applied a portable defibulator to the victim, who then took a short breath, but remained unconscious. The officer cleared the man’s airway and he began to steadily breath. EMS arrived and assumed control. The man was taken to the hospital where police learned he had taken 40 milligrams of methadone while drinking.

• Nov. 10, 500 block of 70th Street, theft. While taking her son to see the doctor, a woman’s home was entered by unknown suspects. The woman reported several pieces of jewelry valued at $8,200 were missing.

• Nov. 14, 4700 block of Gulf Drive, burglary. A resident returned home from out of town to find her glass door had been pried open. Nothing was reported missing, but damages to the door were estimated at $150.

Island police blotter – 11-14-2012

Anna Maria

        • Nov. 1, 500 block of North Shore Drive, harassing phone calls. A Manatee County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a report of harassing phone calls. According to the report, a female complainant said her former boyfriend, with whom she had been involved in a domestic disturbance, was harassing her through his sister. The boyfriend, who is in jail, contacted his sister to ask the ex-girlfriend to stop contacting his family. The complainant felt this was harassment. The deputy advised both parties not to contact one another and they agreed.

• Nov. 2, 500 block of South Drive, domestic disturbance. A husband and wife were arguing. A MCSO deputy reported no violence occurred and the husband voluntarily left the residence to resolve the situation.

        • Nov. 8, 700 block of Gulf Drive North, domestic disturbance. Two male relatives began arguing with one another over one of them doing drugs. Bradenton Beach Police responded to investigate, but the officer reported that those involved refused to cooperate, saying it was a family issue. One of the men agreed to leave for the night to diffuse the situation.

Cortez

• Oct. 32, address deleted, contributing to the delinquency of a minor. A report was filed in May that a woman’s boyfriend was doing LSD in front of her children, and that she was allowing the boyfriend to hit her children with a belt and his hands. An investigation found no evidence of physical abuse, but according to the report, the drug use in front of the children “may have occurred.”

Holmes Beach

        • Nov. 3, 100 block of 49th Street, animal problem. A Holmes Beach Police Department officer responded to a call of abandoned animals, after receiving a call of dogs barking. The complainant reported he had not seen anyone at the home of where the dogs were for three days. The officer peered into the window and saw three large dogs. He contacted animal control, which said it would issue a 24-hour notice at the home. If the homeowner did not respond within 24 hours, animal control would enter and take the dogs.

• Nov. 3, 4300 Second Ave., suspicious circumstance. A HBPD officer observed a 51-year-old man and 23-year-old woman at a construction site. Upon making contact with them, the two said they were there to perform caulk work. The officer was unable to contact the construction company to confirm their employment. A second officer arrived and identified the female as a suspect in an arson case where the man was the victim. The two left the construction site and police later learned that the female was not allowed to be in contact with the man per a court order.

• Nov. 4, 4100 block of Fifth Avenue, animal problem. A complainant reported that a possibly rabid raccoon was roaming the playground area near his residence. Police were unable to locate the animal.

• Nov. 3, 5313 Gulf Drive, disturbance. Police made contact with a husband and wife arguing in the parking lot of the Eat Here Restaurant in regards to a cell phone. No physical contact had been made and the couple said they just wanted to go home.

• Nov. 4, 100 block of 77th Street, vehicle burglary. While on patrol, a HBPD officer observed a vehicle near the beach access. A window was down and the glove box was open. The officer tracked down the renter of the vehicle, who reported a missing purse valued at $600. She told police she also had $300 and credit cards in the missing purse.

• Nov. 4, 4300 block of Gulf Drive, burglary. Two bicycles valued at $260 were reported stolen from a garage.

• Nov. 4, 500 block of Key Royale Drive, criminal mischief. A HBPD officer responded to a possible burglary where he discovered a door had been pried open. The officer called the out-of-town homeowners and determined that nothing appeared to be missing per their conversation. All of the home’s electronics were in place and the couple said nothing else of value was in the home, but that they would be returning soon and double check for missing items. Fingerprints were secured at the scene.

Island police blotter – 11-07-2012

Anna Maria

        • Oct. 29, 204 Palmetto Ave., burglary. Unknown suspects cut the lock on the outside cooler at Slim’s Place, making off with 10 cases of beer and two kegs.

        • Oct. 17, address unlisted, child sexual abuse investigation. A representative of the Florida Abuse Hotline contacted the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office to report a possible sexual assault of a minor in Anna Maria. According to the report, the tip contained few details. The incident is being investigated.

• Oct. 23, 300 block of Crescent Drive, theft. A male juvenile entered the bedroom of a female juvenile through her window. Sometime later, two friends of the male visitor tapped on the window and climbed through. The two friends were asked to leave moments later by the female. Before they left, the two males asked their friend if they wanted to “go into town” to do a drug deal, and he agreed. The three males exited the bedroom window and the female left her bedroom. At some point, one of the visitors apparently stole an iPad. The victim assumed it was her friend and assumed it would be returned the next day, but he denied having it. He also denied knowing if one of the other males was in possession of the iPad.

Bradenton Beach

        • Oct. 31, 500 block of North Shore Drive, battery. A 41-year-old Anna Maria man was arrested on a misdemeanor battery charge following an argument with his girlfriend. According to the report, the couple was arguing when the man grabbed the victim’s cellphone from her hand. The argument subsided until the couple arrived at the victim’s home. They again began to argue, at which time the victim said her boyfriend hit her. She tried to lock herself into his vehicle, but he had the keys. The report states the man opened the car door, pulled her from the car and threw her to the ground. The victim was able to escape into her home, at which time she called the Bradenton Beach Police Department. Officers responded and arrested the man.

• Oct. 14, 103 Gulf Drive S., trespass warning. Video at the Circle K allegedly shows a man entering the store and buying beer. The man came back into the store empty-handed, but showed up at the counter with a bag containing more beer. He asked for a pack of cigarettes and paid for them. The clerk asked the man about the beer, at which time the suspect said it was the beer he had purchased 20 minutes earlier. The store clerk said the man needed to pay for the beer, and he did, but police were contacted and the man was issued a trespass warning.

Cortez

• Oct. 29, 4400 block of 123rd Street, criminal mischief. A complainant reported that two of his vehicle tires were slashed.

• Oct. 29, 4500 block of 123rd Street, criminal mischief. A complainant reported someone cut two tires on his truck and flatbed trailer.

• Oct. 30, 4300 block of 126th Street, burglary. Unknown suspects broke a rear door using a paving brick to gain entry into the home. The resident was not home at the time a MCSO deputy responded to the call, so a list of stolen items was not provided at the time of the report.

• Oct. 31, 4500 block of 124th Street West, domestic disturbance. A MCSO deputy made contact with a couple that was arguing. The woman had recently delivered a baby and reported being depressed and under stress. She said she recently returned to work after maternity leave, and she had been arguing with her live-in boyfriend over finances due to the fact that he was unemployed. No physical contact had been made during the argument. The deputy issued domestic violence packets.

Holmes Beach

        • Oct. 23, 6800 block of Gulf Drive, disturbance. A male complainant reported his wife was ill and family members all returned home with the exception of his adult daughter. The man said his daughter’s presence was an inconvenience. The father agreed to pay for a motel room for the daughter.

• Oct. 23, 5801 Marina Drive, Holmes Beach City Hall, assist. A Holmes Beach Police Department officer was asked to standby as a city employee was terminated. The subject left without incident. The officer reported he was not aware of the reasoning for the termination, but said the former employee smelled of alcohol when he spoke to him.

• Oct. 24, 3015 Gulf Drive, theft. While on patrol, a HBPD officer observed a man running from the CITGO gas station with a 12-pack of beer. The officer watched the man jump into some nearby bushes. He was placed in handcuffs and returned to the store, where the clerk confirmed the suspect stole the beer. The manager did not wish to press charges, but the suspect was issued a trespass warning.

• Oct. 25, 400 block of 28th Street, suspicious incident. Police received a call from a male complainant reporting someone was outside his door saying “What are you doing?” and “I see you.” When the officer arrived to the home, he observed a motion-activated Halloween decoration as the source of the voices, which someone had placed in front of the complainant’s front door.

• Oct. 25, 5386 Gulf Drive, information. A bookkeeper for the Beach Bistro reported that someone had cashed three fraudulent checks at a bank in Orlando using the restaurant’s bank account number. The signatures were forged from a check that was previously written to an Orlando seafood company.

• Oct. 26, 6300 block of Holmes Boulevard, disturbance. Police responded to a possible domestic disturbance and made contact with a couple, who told the HBPD officer they had been drinking with friends. The man wanted to go to bed, which apparently sparked the argument. The woman said she would sleep at a friend’s house for the night.

• Oct. 26, 500 block of 83rd Street, criminal mischief. A complainant reported someone had poured an unknown liquid substance on his vehicle. The liquid ate the paint from the metal surface, causing an estimated $3,000 in damages.

• Oct. 27, 2800 block of Avenue E, theft of services. A woman received a $90 water bill while in Tampa, and returned home to check for a possible leak. She told police her normal bill is around $20. A neighbor reported that workers from a local construction company had tapped into her outside faucet to use her water. Police are investigating.

Island police blotter – 10-31-2012

Anna Maria

    • Oct. 22, 800 block of North Shore Drive, Baker Act. Manatee County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a man in the parking lot of the Rod & Reel Pier, who was threatening to cut his arms, jump into the Gulf of Mexico and feed himself to the sharks. The man told deputies he was upset that his out-of-state girlfriend had become engaged to another man. He said he had come to Florida for work and to better himself, and that his girlfriend was supposed to give him a year to do so. The man told deputies he had 14 beers to help him carry out his plan. Deputies took him into custody, after determining he was a threat to himself or others.

Bradenton Beach

   • Oct. 15, 2400 block of Avenue C, criminal mischief. A Bradenton Beach Police officer responded to a complaint at a local motel. The manager reported that someone had removed a piece of vinyl fence to gain access to the motel pool. She told police she suspected juveniles and that it was the second such occurrence.

• Oct. 23, 2000 Gulf Drive S., warrant. While patrolling the Coquina Beach Park, a BBPD officer observed two men in the park after midnight. After running a check, 47-year-old William Garringer, of Bradenton, was arrested on multiple out-of-county warrants. The second man did not have any warrants, and he was told to leave. Court records indicate Garringer did not appear for a court date on a felony grand theft charge in another county.

Cortez

• Oct. 20, 4400 block of 125th Street West, battery. A 44-year-old woman was arrested for misdemeanor battery after an argument with another woman. According to the report, the victim was upset about some comments that where made about her and confronted the suspect. After doing so, the suspect allegedly pushed her and grabbed her hair. A MCSO deputy observed a small, bleeding scratch on the complainant’s face and arrested the suspect. The victim did not wish to press charges.

Holmes Beach

    • Oct. 18, 3800 block of Gulf Drive, theft. A complainant reported someone stole a decorative metal fish from the outside wall of the apartment building. The fish, valued at $50, was recently painted and attached to the wall with metal wires, which appeared to have been cut.

• Oct. 19, 4000 Gulf Drive, disturbance. A complainant reported a group of teens had been fighting at Manatee Public Beach, but had left the area before a Holmes Beach Police officer arrived to the scene.

• Oct. 20, 5400 Marina Drive, information. A complainant came to HBPD to report that his friend had kicked him on the leg twice and left a threatening message on his phone the previous evening while the two were at D.Coy Ducks Tavern. The complainant told police that he spoke to his friend before coming in to report the incident and that his friend said he did not remember doing those things. The man was asked if he had come to press charges, but he declined to do so.

Island police blotter – 10-24-2012

Anna Maria

        • Oct. 12, 6 Lakeview Place, motor vehicle theft. Pasco County Sheriff’s Office contacted the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office to report a stolen vehicle originating from Anna Maria was discovered in Pasco County.

Bradenton Beach

Holmes Beach

        • Oct. 12, 300 block of Clark Drive. A husband and wife came to the Holmes Beach Police Department to report the theft of 33 checks during a three-month period. According to the report, each checked was forged and cashed for $70, totaling $2,310. The couple stated they believe the suspect has a gambling problem as a possible motive for the theft.

• Oct. 12, 600 block of North Point Drive, criminal mischief. A complainant reported to police she had heard a loud noise and looked outside. She reported that two of her neighbors’ mailboxes had been knocked to the ground. Damages were estimated to be about $100.

• Oct. 12, 2900 block of Avenue E, information. A man reported to police that his wife was moving out and that she had entered the residence to remove her belongings. The man wanted to file a complaint because the wood flooring was scratched and holes were left in the wall. HBPD suggested it was a civil matter and that he should contact his attorney.

• Oct. 13, 5400 block of Gulf Drive, assist EMS. An HBPD officer responded to a possible motorcycle accident. Upon investigating the scene, it was determined the rider of a scooter had fainted and fallen off the vehicle while driving. The driver was treated by EMS at the scene and no damage was reported to the scooter.

• Oct. 13, 5400 block of Gulf Drive, D.Coy Ducks Tavern, criminal mischief. A complainant reported that two men had engaged in a physical altercation. During the fight, two black landscape lights were broken. Damages were estimated at $600.
