Image-i-nation

Announcing the honorable mentions in The Islander’s annual Top Notch photography. Look for the top entries in the pet photography contest in the Aug. 21 issue.

Amber Allen of Bradenton receives an honorable mention for a saturated, cool-themed photograph of a forest.

Phil Bunnell earns an honorable mention for his infrared image of an iconic beachfront home on Oak Avenue in Anna Maria.

Holly Moher wins an honorable mention for her bird with prey image, which she captured using a Nikon D40 in Anna Maria.

Barbara Raber of west Bradenton receives an honorable mention for catching a brown pelican in the middle of a big gulp.

 

 

Intent ibis

Jack Portman of Norcross, Ga., wins the final weekly Top Notch judging with his photograph of two intent ibis on the beach. He wins an Islander “More Than a Mullet Wrapper” T-shirt and entry in the newspaper’s grand-prize Top Notch contest. Next week, The Islander announces the winner of the grand prize.

Heron-atics

Joe Zambito of Anna Maria wins this week’s Top Notch judging with his photograph — taken with a Canon Rebel XT — of two herons above his neighbor’s house. He wins an Islander “More Than a Mullet Wrapper” T-shirt and entry in the newspaper’s grand-prize Top Notch contest. One week remains to enter. For more information, go to page 8.

Paddling pup

John M. Lafferty of Holmes Beach wins this week’s Top Notch judging with an image of Aces diving for a football in an island pool. Lafferty wins an Islander “More Than a Mullet Wrapper” T-shirt and entry in the newspaper’s grand-prize Top Notch contest.

Sons and shorebirds

Lisa Isenberg of Durango, Colo., wins this week’s Top Notch judging with an image of shorebirds and three sons taking off on a local beach. Isenberg regularly visits the area, staying with family in Sleepy Lagoon on Longboat Key. She wins an Islander “More Than a Mullet” T-shirt and entry in the newspaper’s grand-prize Top Notch contest.

Flying in formation

Terry Martsolf of Seminole won Week 2 of The Islander’s Top Notch photo contest with this image of five brown pelicans playing follow the leader in Holmes Beach. Martsolf wins an Islander t-shirt and the entry is entered into the newspaper’s grand-prize contest, which will be decided in August. Send Top Notch entries to topnotch@islander.org.
