Pierce resigns as mayor
Michael Pierce resigned June 3 as mayor of Bradenton Beach.
Bob Bartelt, elected Ward 4 commissioner almost two years ago, became mayor, a post he will hold until November, when an election will take place.
Pierce made his announcement at the city commission meeting at city hall.
He delivered a prepared statement. “It is with heavy heart that I am tendering my resignation as the mayor of the city of Bradenton Beach,” Pierce said.
Pierce, who defeated William Shearon in the mayoral race last November to win a second term, cited family needs as his reason for resigning.
“While I had hoped to continue to serve out my term as mayor, recent family needs have arisen that require my personal attention, time and focus,” Pierce said. “I have always felt that family needs must come first.”
