Margaret Mahar
Margaret Mahar, 90, previously of Schenectady N.Y., died Aug. 6 in Bradenton.
Mrs. Mahar was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church.
A private Mass was held for her family.
She is survived by daughters Maureen Mahar Macchio and husband Joe; and Frances Mahar Calik and husband Daniel; son John Mahar and wife Barbara; grandchildren Michael Calik and wife Cori, Molly Mahar Lyman and husband Matt, Brian Mahar and wife Lauren, Beth Calik Sarkisian and husband Rob; and great-grandchildren Caitlyn Cofer, Samantah Calik, Megan Calik, Ryan Calik, Stephen Sarkisian, Richy Sarkisian and Danny Sarkisian
Albert Norman ‘Norm’ McKelvey
Albert Norman “Norm” McKelvey, 83, of Franklin County, Tenn, died July 28. He was born Jan. 16, 1927, in Philadelphia, Pa. His early years were spent in the Panama Canal Zone.
Norman retired from the U.S. Navy in 1963 and then served 10 years in the Naval Reserve. He served in both the European and Pacific Theaters during World War II and also served in the Korean War. His awards include American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Navy Occupation Medal and Expert Shot Medal. After retirement he worked with the East Central Florida Regional Planning Council for 15 years before pursuing his multiple artistic interests on Anna Maria Island. He was a member of Masonic Alpha Lodge #172; Life member of the Anna Maria Island Privateers; active in the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary in Sanford, Fla; a member of International Marine Water Color Society; life member of National Rifle Association; Life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars; member of the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association; member of The American Legion; and the Naval Fleet Reserve.
The family asks that he be remembered by doing something nice for someone else.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Charlotte Abbott; children Catherine M. and husband William Tyre of Fort Atkinson, Wis.; Norma L. of Big Pine Key, Fla.; Joseph Michael of Sanford, Fla.; Peter Wilder and wife Crystal A. of Sarasota, FL; stepson Scott Cantrell Behrens of Hilton Head, S.C.; grandchildren: Tazza Tyre and husband Stephan Woditschka of Garrett Park, Md.; William Treyton Tyre of Waupaca, Wis.; Emily Catherine Murray of Nashville, Tenn.; Jennifer Michael McKelvey of Gunnison, Colo.; Lauren Lorea Roberts of Big Pine Key; Norma Alexandra McKelvey of Denver, Colo.; and three great-grandchildren, November Vyrea Woditschka, Zealand Oscar Woditschka and Liam Boyd.
