Streetscape plantings planned for Holmes Beach
A local landscape company has agreed to “adopt” eight traffic medians in Holmes Beach, with enhanced plantings to take place within the next 30 days.
Jeb Stewart will do the work, parks and beautification chair John Molyneux told the group last week.
Medians to be improved are at Gulf Drive at the north end of the Manatee Public Beach, Gulf Drive at Sunrise Lane, Marina Drive near Wachovia Bank, Marina Drive at 54th Street, Gulf Drive at 53rd Street, Gulf Drive at 56th Street, Gulf Drive and Palm Avenue, and along Gulf Drive at the S&S Plaza.
There may also be some improvements to the Key Royale Drive-Marina Drive intersection. An outline of a plan featuring shrubs and groundcover varieties has been formulated and will be presented to the Key Royale Homeowners Association later this year.
Parks and beautification committee members also recommended either a tamarind or pigeon plum palm be planted on April 25, Arbor Day. The tree recommendation will go to Keep Manatee Beautiful, which has offered to plant the tree near the canal between 75th and 77th streets off Marina Drive.
There should also be some planting improvements near the Episcopal Church of the Annunciation along Gulf Drive. Molyneux said the streetscape should be installed within 90 days.
The next meeting of the group is scheduled for May 7 at city hall.
