The Anna Maria Island Community Center’s renovated facility took nearly six years from conception to opening, but on Sept. 4, the new Center on Magnolia Avenue in Anna Maria opened its doors for members and guests.

Aida Matic of the Center’s staff said a number of programs started to operate that day and nearly all programs should be operational by the end of September.

The after-care program for elementary students will not start at the Center until Monday, Sept. 17, she said. That program will continue to operate at the Anna Maria Elementary School for another two weeks, Matic indicated.

A grand opening ceremony and celebration is planned for November.
