Roadwatch

Eyes on the road

The Florida Department of Transportation issued the following alerts for motorists driving in the area the week of Oct. 6:

• State Road 789/Gulf Drive, from State Road 684/Cortez Road to 28th Street: A maintenance project continues, with crews replacing utility poles. Motorists can expect northbound lane closures 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. through Friday, Oct. 17.

• State Road 684/Cortez Road at the Cortez Bridge, from east of Gulf Drive to west of 127th Street West: Crews will install an intercom system at the bridge house and will work on the bridge beams and fender wall. Motorists should note that driving across the bridge will feel bumpy due to the crews jacking — lifting — the bridge to remove and replace the bridge expansion bearings. Bridge jacking will occur until mid-November.

Quinn Construction Inc. is the contractor on the project, which is expected to be completed this winter, in early 2015.

• State Road 684/Cortez Road, from 103rd Street to 119th Street: A maintenance project continues, with crews replacing power poles. The outside eastbound lane will close 9 a.m.-4 p.m. through Friday, Oct. 17.

The DOT advises that motorists who encounter roadwork should expect delays and use caution.
