A conflict that started as a trespass at the Walgreens in Holmes Beach ended in an altercation with law enforcement on the mainland.
Kyle Mills, 27, listed as homeless and with a Bradenton address, was arrested by Holmes Beach police on charges of battery to a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with violence and trespass after a warning, according to a Holmes Beach probable cause report.
Mills was allegedly causing a disturbance March 4 at about 3:20 p.m. when Holmes Beach police were called to the store at 3200 E. Bay Drive.
A Walgreens manager trespassed Mills, advising him that he was not welcome at the store. HBPD officers escorted the man from the property.
Mills allegedly walked back on the property, telling police to take him to jail.
HBPD obliged and drove Mills to meet Manatee County Sheriff’s Office deputies at Manatee Avenue and 75th Street West for transport to the jail.
Mills told the HBPD officers they were at war, according to the police report.
When the MCSO van arrived, Mills allegedly refused to exit the patrol car and became violent. Officers used force to remove him from the vehicle, according to the police report.
Mills allegedly kicked the officers, put his teeth on HBPD Officer Josh Fleischer and grabbed and tried to bite HBPD Officer Mike Pilato.
Police used pain compliance techniques, struck Mills several times and used pepper spray to subdue him, according to the reports.
Mills was booked into the Manatee County jail.
At his first appearance, 12th Judicial Circuit Judge Susan B. Maulucci set bond at $13,000 and appointed a public defender.
Mills’ arraignment is scheduled at 9 a.m. Friday, April 10, at the Manatee County Judicial Center, 1051 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton.
