An Anna Maria man was arrested for driving under the influence following an accident at 51st Street and Gulf Drive in Holmes Beach.
Florida Highway Patrol arrested John Michael Ellsworth, 54, after he allegedly failed to negotiate a turn while driving a pickup truck in the 5200 block of Gulf Drive.
There, the truck went back and forth over the center line, struck a concrete storm drain, bicycle lane pole and palm trees before coming to rest on the south side of the street, according to police reports.
Ellsworth was found scraped up and emergency medical services was called.
Witnesses advised that Ellsworth “smelled like a brewery,” according to FHP report.
FHP reported Ellsworth had watery eyes, sluggish behavior, an odor of alcohol on his breath and hard-to-understand speech.
He was charged with three counts of DUI with property damage and one count of refusing to submit to a blood alcohol test.
Ellsworth was booked at the Manatee County jail, posted a $2,000 bond and was released.
His court arraignment is set for July 29 at the Manatee County Judicial Center, 1051 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton.
