Herman Bode Jr.
Herman Bode Jr., 88, of Sun City Center, died Oct. 4.
He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Independence during World War II.
As an early resident of Anna Maria Island, he was part of the construction crew on the home development in Country Club Shores on Longboat Key. He was a loving husband, devoted father, grandpa and faithful brother. He loved camping, spear fishing and smelt dipping.
A memorial service will be held in Michigan next spring. Donations may be made to Life Path Hospice, 3725 Upper Creek Drive, Ruskin FL 33573. Arrangements by Sun City Center Funeral Home.
Survivors include wife Marilyn; children Richard and wife Sherri, Barbara, Tim and wife Cindy, Brenda and husband Carl Brandt and Michelle and husband Jeff Tustin; brothers Alfred and wife Sue and Jim and wife Jo; sister Jane and husband Robert Fowler; sisters-in-law Edith Walton and Millie Taylor; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

John Thomas Evans, 68, of Holmes Beach, died Oct. 3.

Harold ‘Joe’ Mascher
Harold “Joe” Mascher, 92, of Bradenton, died Oct. 7.
He was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, and moved to Bradenton in 2011 from Brooksville.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II.
A Mass was to take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 248 S. Harbor Drive, Holmes Beach. Gerald F. McUsic
Gerald F. McUsic, 84, of Anna Maria Island, died Oct. 8.
He was born Nov. 4, 1930, in Illinois.
He spent most of his life in Flint, Michigan, as registrar at Mott Community College, where he loved to talk to people and help students figure out their career paths.
He and wife Suzanne permanently moved in 1994 to Anna Maria Island, where the loved the beach, sunsets, talking to neighbors and the island lifestyle.
He was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church in Holmes Beach and was active in the men’s club.
A Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday, Oct. 17, at the church, 248 S. Harbor Drive, Holmes Beach.
He is survived by children Dan, Francie Sweet, Molly and Andrew; three grandchildren; sisters Joyce Lisabeth and Kathleen Mourad and brother James McUsic.
Timon J. Morales
Timon J. Morales, 44, of Bradenton Beach, died Sept. 30.
He was a soldier, military veteran, writer, teacher and loving son.
He was a graduate of Bayshore High School in Bradenton and an eagle scout.
He also was a director and actor, with film, television and commercial credits, including on “Modern Family,” “Greys Anatomy,” “Sons of Anarchy,” “Glee,” “I Like Girls” and “Gone Girl.”
Survivors include mother Laura; uncle John Longano; aunts Jay and Linda Longano; first cousins Trina, Julie, Tanya; and second cousins Stella, Romey, Cameron, Jaden and Emma.
Jacquetta ‘Jacquie’ Shaw
Jacquetta “Jacquie” Shaw, 86, of Bradenton, died Sept. 21.
She moved to Longboat Key and Anna Maria Island in the late 1960s from Pimmit Hills, Virginia. Aside from the beauty and lifestyle of the islands, she loved the hot, humid weather.
She worked as a Woolworth’s window trimmer, a dental assistant, a United Airlines reservation agent and had many roles in the health care community. She dedicated herself to her family and caring for others.
She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, playing cards and Scrabble games. She also loved sports and was passionate in her support of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Cooking was never a chore — it brought her joy to prepare healthy meals for her loved ones.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to Tidewell Hospice of Bradenton, 3355 26th St. W., Bradenton FL 34205.
Survivors include sister Connie Rose of Mechanicsville, Virginia; children Gary and wife Jan Suess of Trophy Club, Texas, Connie and husband Pat Carden of Kodak, Tennessee, and Cyndi and husband Jim Gouwens of Bradenton; grandchildren Candace Curtis, Jon Curtis, Kris Suess, Shane Suess and John Fraze; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition, she leaves lifelong friend Helen Frank of Kensington, Maryland, and her treasured angel Bonnie Lipke of Bradenton.
