Holmes Beach police stopped an erratic driver on his way out of town and arrested him for driving under the influence.

Chandler M. Variot, 35, of Bradenton, was stopped by Holmes Beach Police Officer Alan Bores at 1:14 a.m. Sept. 4 in a silver Nissan after the officer noted the vehicle traveling 70 mph in a 45-mph zone.

Bores followed Variot’s vehicle at various rates of speed from the 700 block of Manatee Avenue to the Anna Maria Island Bridge, where the officer activated his emergency lights. The vehicle came to a stop in the 12000 block of Manatee Avenue.

Variot was not able to locate his registration and insurance, according to the police report.

He allegedly told the officer he’d consumed “a couple beers and a couple glasses of wine.”

After field tests, he was arrested for DUI and transported to Manatee County jail.

Variot provided two breath samples at the jail, measuring 0.155 and 0.153 blood-alcohol content. The legal limit is 0.08.

Variot also was ticketed for speeding, no proof of insurance and failing to display registration.

He was released on $500 bond pending a Wednesday, Oct. 5, arraignment at the Manatee County Judicial Center, 1051 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton.
