The fall soccer league finally got in a full week of action after two weeks of cancellations due to rainy weather.
The action got going Oct. 10 with a pair of games in the 6-7 age division.
Bin There Dumped That earned a 3-0 victory over Signarama behind a hat trick from Ewan Cloutier and a pair of saves between goalies Xane Flores and Cale Rudacille. Conor Samblis made six saves in goal for Signarama in the loss.
Air & Energy slipped past Blalock Walters by a 3-2 score in the second 6-7 division game. Gigi Greene, Jack McCarthy and Jordan Moore each scored goals to lead A&E, which also received four saves from goalie Charlie Rogers in the victory.
William Pakbaz scored two goals to lead Blalock Walters and saves from goalies Ethan Guerrero, Victoria Perry, Fox Smith and Lily Stringer in the loss.
The 8-10 division got underway Oct. 11 with a pair of matches. The first one saw Gulf Bay Realty edge Mason Martin Builders by a 4-3 score behind three goals from Gregory Jordan and one from Elek Brisson. Lily Kawahata made five saves in goal to help preserve the victory.
Mason Agnelli, Mikela Culhane and Jackson Pakbaz scored a goal each, while Fiona McCarthy and Giles Kirkland combined for five saves in the loss.
The second 8-10 division game saw Cloud Pest Control earn a 4-2 victory over Bins Be Clean behind three goals from Aiden Templeton. Frankie Coleman added a goal, while brother Mikey Coleman made four saves in the victory.
Riley Lawson scored two goals and Nick Yatros made four saves for Bins Be Clearn in the loss.
Planet Stone recorded a 5-1 victory over Tyler’s Ice Cream to open the 11-14 division season. Nick Cavaluzzi recorded a hat trick and Jack Barnes scored two goals to lead Planet Stone, which also received two saves from goalie Bryce Higgins in the victory.
Tyler Brewer notched the lone goal for Tyler’s Ice Cream, which received an incredible 14 saves from Thomas Heckler in goal.
Adult flag football heads to playoffs
The regular season is over, seedings are set and the second season — playoffs — is here for the participants in the adult flag football league at the center.
The action gets started at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, with the No. 5 seed Moss Builders taking on fourth seeded Coldwell Banker. No. 2 seed Mason Martin Construction takes on seventhe seed Blake Medical Center in the second game of the evening. Third seeded Beach House Realty battles sixth place Tyler’s Ice Cream in the third game, while top seeded Progressive Cabinetry takes on eighth seeded Anna Maria CrossFit in the final game of the evening.
The winners advance to two semifinal games at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, with the winners set to battle for the championship at 8:30 p.m.
Key Royale golf news
The men of Key Royale Club played a nine-hole modified-Stableford golf match Oct. 10. Bob Soos came in as the big winner, carding a plus-5 to earn clubhouse bragging rights for the day. Barry Izzard was one point back in second place.
The women got on the course Oct. 11 for a nine-hole individual-low-net match with a side game of low putts for the round.
Liz Lang’s 1-over-par 33 was good enough for first place in Flight A. Jana Samuels and Carol Duncan were two strokes back in a tie for second place. Flight B saw Marcia O’Brien, Terry Westby and Debbie Richardson fire even-par 32s to finish in a three-way tie for first.
Margrit Layh won the low-putts game with 15 putts on her round.
The men were back on the course Oct. 13 for a nine-hole scramble. The team of Ron Buck, Gary Duncan, Merritt Fineout and John Purcell matched the 5-under-par 27 scored by the team of Jack Isherwood, Bob O’Keefe, Bob Soos and Ron Vanderman to finish in a tie for first place.
Horseshoe news
The team of Dom Livedoti and Norm Good managed the only 3-0 pool play record and were the day’s outright champs during Oct. 12 horseshoe action at the Anna Maria City Hall horseshoe pits.
Livedoti made his sixth straight trip to the winner’s circle in the Oct. 15 action. This time he teamed up with Neil Hennessey to defeat Sam Samuels and Steve Doyle by a 21-16 score.
Play gets underway at 9 a.m. every Wednesday and Saturday at the Anna Maria City Hall pits. Warmups begin at 8:45 a.m. followed by random team selection.
Cornhole action in 6th week
Week six of the Ugly Grouper cornhole league, played at the restaurant, 5704 Marina Drive, Holmes Beach, resumed after a rain-out last week.
General Store was victorious over Ugly Grouper Toss Me Softly by a 2-0 score. Tag Em and Bag Em defeated Island Coffee Haus AMI 2-0, while Def Con 5 and Island Coffee Haus HB both dropped 2-0 decisions. AMI Car Wash beat Feast, Duck and Corn 2-1, while Corn Dawgs No. 2 took out rival Corn Dawgs 2-0. Amateur Corn Stars remained undefeated after topping Captain Morgan Charters by a 2-1 score.
