Pauline ‘Polly’ W. Mooney

Pauline “Polly” W. Mooney, 97, of Meadville, Pennsylvania, died Jan. 27.

She was born Sept. 22, 1919, to the late Frank and Estella (Witherow) Wolford.

On July 3, 1942, she married Merle A. Mooney, who preceded her in death.

She graduated from Warren Business College in 1939 and from 1960-74 she was employed by Allegheny College, where she worked in various departments. While working at Allegheny and raising two sons, she returned to the classroom at age 44, graduating with a degree in 1972.

In 1974, she became the first director of the Crawford County Office for the Aging in Meadville.

Over the years, she was involved with the American Red Cross, Kiwanis, Rails to Trails and other initiatives and organizations.

After she retired, she spent winters in Florida, where she volunteered with the Anna Maria Island Chamber of Commerce and was an honorary member of the Kiwanis Club of Anna Maria Island. She enjoyed walking on the beach.

She is survived by sons Mike and wife Barbara Cook of Cincinnati and Tom of Morristown, New Jersey; grandsons Zak and wife Emily of Frederick, Maryland, Chris and Peter of Cincinnati; Sean of New York City and Evan of Portland, Oregon; great-grandsons Max and Sam, several nieces and nephews; and an array of admiring and loving friends.

 

Jane Donovan Ryan

Jane Donovan Ryan, 84, died Jan. 28.

She was a founding member of the Anna Maria Island Ceili Irish Dancers, lifelong member of Christ the King Church in Chicago and St. Bernard Catholic Church in Holmes Beach.

Memorial donations may be made to Christ the King School Foundation.

Survivors include children Kathleen and husband John Waite, Eileen and husband Hugh Spector, Maureen and husband Bob Pangrazio, William and wife Cheryl and Madonna and husband Dan Martin; grandchildren Ryan, Danny, Colin, Terisa, Sara, Dylan, John, Steve, Billy, Kate, Dan, Mike, Liam and Margaret Jane; great-grandchildren Annie, Jane, Molly, Donovan, Emelyn, Jack, Lauren and Mira; siblings Tom Donovan and wife Tini Campbell, John and wife Diana Donovan, Eileen “Beba” and husband Pat Donovan; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and lifelong friends.
