Richard Art
Richard Art, 89, of Holmes Beach, died May 2. He was born May 28, 1921, in Bridgeport, Conn. He and wife Margaret retired to Holmes Beach in September 1979.
He was a member of St. John’s Lodge in Stratford, Conn., Sahib Shriners in Sarasota and the Gulf Shrine Club, and a lifelong blood and platelet donor as well as an organ donor.
Mr. Art worked for the Singer Sewing Machine Co. in Bridgeport and Elizabeth, N.J., as manager of the screw machine department.
He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Rushmore in the South Pacific theater during three invasions.
There will be a gathering of family and friends to celebrate his life at his home from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, May 6. Memorial donations may be made to Tidewell Hospice, 3355 26th St., Bradenton FL 34204, or the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 12502 N. Pine Drive, Tampa FL 33612-9499.
Mr. Art is survived by his wife of 64 years, Margaret; three sons, William and wife Norah and James and wife Robin, all of Bradenton, and Donald Art Whitman and wife Ann of Vermont; grandchildren John, Frances, Brian, Jason and Aaron of Bradenton and David and Katherine of Vermont; great-granddaughter, Kilee; sisters Arlene Mills of Connecticut and Lillian Offenberg of Gulfport, Fla., brother Alfred of Bradenton; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Carolyn St. Clair Seymour
Carolyn St. Clair Seymour, 65, of Bradenton, and formerly of Elkton, Va., died April 25.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to honor Mrs. Seymour and her contribution to cancer research to Tidewell Hospice & Palliative Care, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota FL 34238.
Mrs. Seymour is survived by her mother, Marguerite St. Clair of Silver Springs, Md.; daughter Rebecca A. of Bradenton; son Brian F. of Anna Maria; grandchildren Amanda, Brittany and husband Chris Green, Kevin Millsap and J.T. Millsap; great-grandchildren Emilee, Eli, Hailey, Christina and Madison; and sister Jane Bortoa of Arizona.
Wilma J. Warren
Wilma J. Warren, 80, died April 30. She was born September 2, 1930, in Lexington, Ky. She moved to Manatee County from Indianapolis in 1986.
Mrs. Warren was manager of Alamanda Villa Motel in Holmes Beach. She was congressional secretary for Congressman Andy Jacobs Jr. of Indiana. She was active in the Democratic Party, serving on the Manatee County Democratic Executive Committee. She was a member of the Manatee Women’s Democratic Club and the Anna Maria Island Democratic Club.
Mrs. Warren was the first recipient of the Lawton Chiles Outstanding Service award to the Democratic Party. She was honorary secretary of state for Indiana and a Sagamore of the Wabash.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, at Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory 26th Street Chapel. There will be a graveside service at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 5, at Skyway Memorial Gardens in Palmetto. Brown & Sons is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Warren is survived by four sons, William E. and wife Marsha of Greenwood, Ind., Robert A. and wife Ruby of Indianapolis, James R. and wife Janet of Cape Coral, Fla., and Thomas and wife Sandy of Bradenton; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
