It’s the final week to register for the spring season of competitive youth soccer.
Registration for the spring Manatee Area Youth Soccer Organization season ends Feb. 7.
Evaluations are scheduled for the week of Feb. 8-11 at G.T. Bray Park in Bradenton, with practices starting up Feb. 22 and the first games scheduled for March 6.
Cost for the season is $125 plus a $50 deposit, and the deposit is due on registration.
After player evaluations and assignment to a team, the $125 registration fee comes due. The $50 deposit is refunded upon completion of two hours of service for the club.

Horseshoe news
Two teams emerged with 3-0 records in pool play and battled for the day’s championship during Jan. 27 horseshoe action at the Anna Maria City Hall horseshoe pits.
The finals saw the team of Gene Bobeldyk and Steve Doyle cruise to the winner’s circle with a 23-2 thrashing of Adin Shank and Bob Fleming.
The Jan. 30 games were the opposite, with no undefeated teams setting up a five-way playoff of two-and-one teams.
Shank and Bob Lee drew the first bye and watched as Doyle and Bob Mason advanced with a 21-17 victory over Jerry Disbrow and Fleming. The other match saw Tim Sofran and Tom Skoloda eliminate Tom Farrington and Bob Brown 21-4.
Sofran and Skoloda drew the bye into the finals as Doyle and Mason advanced with a 21-17 victory over Shank and Lee.
Doyle and Mason won their third consecutive game and the day’s bragging rights with a 21-17 victory over Sofran and Skoloda.
Play gets underway at 9 a.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays at the Anna Maria City Hall pits. Warmups begin at 8:45 a.m., followed by random team selection.
There is no charge to play and everyone is welcome.
Key Royale golf news
Golf action at the Key Royale Club in Holmes Beach in the past week got started Jan. 25 with the men playing a nine-hole modified-Stableford system match that produced a three-way tie for first place in the team competition.
The team of Tim Donnar, Steve Vasbinder, John Kolojeski and Bruce Christensen matched the plus-6 scores carded by Ken Butler, John Cassese, Joe Cassese and Ron Vandeman and by Gary Risner, Greg Shorten, Buddy Foy and Kurt Snouffer.
Steve Vasbinder won individual honors with a plus-6, a point ahead of second-place finisher Jack Lowry. Mike Prichett, Gary Risner and Tim Donnar finished in a tie for third place at plus-4.
The women played a nine-hole, individual low-net match Jan. 26 in three flights.
Sue Wheeler rode a birdie on No. 8 to a 6-under-par 26 for the low round of the day and first place in Flight A by a stroke over second-place finisher Roxanne Koche, who had a birdie on the sixth hole. Pam Lowry and Jenney Hulbers, who also birdied the eighth, finished in a tie for third place at 4-under-par 28.
Pam Alvord fired a 2-under-par 30 to win Flight B by two strokes over Judy Todd, Margrit Layh and Gloria LaDue, who all finished at even-par 32. MaryLou Dreier and Kay Neal tied for third at 1-over-par 33.
Lisa Edmonds earned a one-shot victory in Flight C with a 3-under-par 29. Terry Westby, who had a chipin on the fourth hole and Marty Clark tied for second place at 2-under-par 30, while Janet Razze, Peggy Clauhs and Jane Perkins tied for third at 1-under-par 31.
Mary Wilkes added a birdie on the No. 6 and Beth Lindeman had a chipin on the seventh hole to wrap up the ladies’ rounds.
The men were back on the links Jan. 28 for a nine-hole shamble won by Mike Brakefield, Brian Comer, Fred Miller and Earl Ritchie on an even-par 32.
The team of Eric Lawson, Scott Mitchell, Bill Shuman and Mike Schroeder matched the 2-over-par 34 carded by Ken Butler, Al Carr, Hoyt Miller and John Purcell to finish in a tie for second place.
Meanwhile, center sports on hold
The outdoor sports leagues at the Center of Anna Maria Island in Anna Maria were pushed back a week to give the fields a rest and a chance for some newly sown rye seed to take root.
Youth football was to resume Feb. 2, followed Feb. 3 by adult soccer and adult football.
